Check the CNN story on this research. We know that Duke has the world largest collection of primates, and what Nicolelis does with a few of them is just remarkable.

PS No, those are not the primates who chase a little ball with a netted broomstick or plan themed racial parties.

PPS Please do not make this a Cal or Michigan has a better BME program, or a UCSF being Cal's med school. Let Golden have a bone.

Michigan doesn’t have a better BME program Xiggi. It’s the ONLY area of engineering where Duke is better, but you can wave them pompoms promoting one of your favorite schools. It’s ok…

I’m certain that Duke, like all major research institutions, constantly has amazing research projects in many areas. Unfortunately, with the sequestration taking affect, these types of discoveries might not happen as often in the future. It is a very sad time in America right now.

Yada yada. Cutting a bit of fat and deadwood still leaves an over bloated empire of waste and sinecures.

It is about time for academia thinkers to make the same sacrifices the doers have done for the past decade. And it is about time to end spending like drunken sailors to protect the diva lifestyles of a few ivory tower residents.

And put an end to the type of research comically shown in The Five-Year Engagement. Hollywood perhaps, but still everyday fodder in our schools.

The whole concept of Genetic Algorithms was revolutionized by Professor John Holland, a Michigan alum and professor. I actually took one of his classes at Michigan back in the early 90s. Just saying! ;)

On a more serious note, the work that Dr. Nicolelis and his team are doing is awesome.
