So yeah my SAT went up 30 points now the math is a 460! YAY! (not) They are giving me another chance in May but I have a feeling I'm done. I'm going to take it and continue studying to do better on this test...I'm not going to get mad or trip I'll make it!

Westmoreland and Schwarzkopf weren't excepted the first either and they lead entire wars! So I'm in good company!

If USMA is what you want definitely keep on trying! When I first started applying my admissions officer said that I might be on the two year plan. I wasnt exactly excited when I heard this, but I kept going. Right now I am on the national waiting list, and west point is sending me to a prep school, so I guess in a way I did end up on the two year program. :-) At the start of the application process my admissions officer recommended ROTC and continue applying the following year. I applied for an ROTC/scholarship as a back up plan and recieved a full rotc scholarship. (although I am turning it down for west point civil prep) Also, West Point looks well upon those who are reapplying and they have specific allotted appointments for those in ROTC All in all, keep at it and they didnt reject you yet so you still have a chance. Good luck!

JP: It sounds as if WP admissions is trying very hard to work with you. If they have given you another chance to take the SAT in May you are extremely fortunate. Does this mean that if you can get your scores above 500 they will still consider you for USMAPS for the upcoming year?

JP,
I much preferred the SAT to ACT; but I scored much higher on the ACT. To me, the ACT seemed much more advanced while the SAT seemed more of a high school-level test. I took the ACT before I took trig, so the sines, cosines, etc. and a lot of the other math was foreign to me. The reading was drier and more intimidating for me, too. The SAT just seemed friendlier and easier...but my ACT scores were friendlier and easier to look at. :)

No matter how much you don't like it, take them both. There's usually a noticeable difference between the two scores...and since the Academy ignores low scores, it's definitely a worthwhile and risk-free opportunity.

Oh my gosh...funnyesq is soo mean! But any way yeah you definetely need to get that math score up above 500 at the very least. What were your ACT scores? A 22-23 is the minimum score you should make for it to be any where near competitive. But good luck!

I would suggest the ACT for Math; you may not like it but it measures what you have already learned, rather than what you "will learn" like SAT does. I scored pretty well on the SAT Math, but my ACT was WAYYY better. And if u do good on ur ACT they convert those scores to SAT if needed

"And if u do good on ur ACT they convert those scores to SAT if needed"
Admissions accepts SAT and ACT scores - and uses whichever test is higher overall. However they do not mix and match SAT and ACT scores (ie they will not mix a high math ACT with a high Verbal SAT).

I do not intend to be "mean"

If he/she really wants a goal, then he/she will do what it takes to achieve that goal. If the math score needs improvement (and it clear does), then he/she will study math until the score improves enough to qualify.

I am concerned about an individual who uses the word EXCEPT when the correct word is ACCEPT. I find it difficult to empathize with an individual who is...here it comes...lazy and not caring. It DOES impact on his/her ability to gain admission to a highly competitive school like USMA. It's called "attention to detail." If he/she doesn't get it now, how does he/she hope to get it if, by some miracle, they get in and have to "get it?"

JP -I did the ACTs too and found I preferred the SATs. (It was probably because I was more familiar with the SATs though) The third time I took my SATs I was able to raise my scores significantly. (Thank god) I also recommend taking one of those online SAT prep courses, it helped me a great deal, especially in Math. The last time I took the SATs I was the most confident as well which helped too. I wish you the best in your SATs and USMA appointment! (And I hope you prove funnyesq wrong)

What? USMA is paying for a tutor for you? That is the first I've heard of anything like that. They seem to really want you to be successful so you can attend. I am curious: are you part of an under-represented segment of the overall population?
