Does getting an interview mean you’re more likely to be accepted?

@brigidohara I don’t think so. It doesn’t seem like a big deal if you don’t get one.

http://admission.princeton.edu/applyingforadmission/admission-faqs/interviews

Congrats on a successful interview, hopefulperson! Haha idk how I would have tackled that curveball question…

Unfortunately I haven’t gotten my interview request yet I guess I’ll just have to wait.

@Ambitious19 Monta Vista High School???!!! WOw that’s where I used to go hahahaha! Looks like it’s pretty competitive this year. I go to school in Palo Alto, by the way, so not too far! Good luck to all of us!

@alfawarlord yup! It’s a stressful and cutthroat place. I won’t even be the tiniest bit sad to graduate!

hi guys, I sent (actually sent, not placed the order) my SATs to Princeton on October 31, but apparently Princeton still hasn’t received it according to the application tracker. is this normal or should i resend the scores?

@ispmoonlife where does it say SAT scores on the application tracker? I only have a sentence saying my app is complete but does not give me a list of what they received

I am applying to Princeton 2019 SCEA which has a due date of 11/1. Application Tracker indicates application completed and pending for review. However, I received a nice brochure with a letter dated 11/14 from Princeton Admission Office today; that asks me to consider applying to Princeton. What is going on here? Does that mean Princeton sent out those invitation without knowing who has applied already? And should I call Princeton Admission Office and tell them I have submitted application?

@HPClee if you only have a sentence saying your application is complete, your application is 100% complete! Nothing is missing. Only if you have things missing (recs, scores) does a list show up.

@deerhk88 I would ignore the brochure and NOT call the Admissions Office; Princeton (and similar schools) mail out fancy viewbooks and letters all the time, whether you’ve applied or not. If your application is complete, you shouldn’t worry.

@ispmoonlife if you already sent them, I wouldn’t resend them. They will get there in time.

I am from South Korea and I got an interview notification today. Did anybody else from Korea or East Asian area get one too?

@Vbdunk As for selective interviews for international applicants, IDK about Princeton but other universities seem to do so… like in my school, two people did early for Yale while only one got an interview, while nine did for Columbia n only one of them got an interview. If interviews r solely based location, this seems rather weird…

When did/do the admissions officers start reviewing apps? Does anyone know? My interview is on the 24th, so I’m wondering if it’ll be too late to make a difference for admission if it goes well.

All interviews depend on availability of alumni to conduct the interviews. This can be somewhat of a challenge for international students depending on who might be available in your area. It is also dependant on the number of applicants they have to interview and the time to do so. The interviewers are not given an applicant’s background or Common App information other than what is needed to contact them, so who gets selected for an interview in some locations is more random in nature. I have heard of some interviews being conducted by phone but I think the preference is still face to face where that is possible. Interviews are not selective by probability of admission and do not factor heavily in the admissions decision. If you are not offered an interview opportunity it does not reflect poorly on your application.

Having said all this, I would encourage you to check your spam/junk e-mails to ensure that any requests have not been redirected. But if you have done so and no interview offer is forthcoming, don’t be alarmed.

@Frozengogurt I don’t believe the date of your interview is too late - from what I understand the report that goes to admissions is very concise. It’s more likely that they use it to confirm their decision of admission to you later in the process. I do know that interviewers are notified when someone they interview has been offered admission (after you receive the notice, of course). My son’s interviewer kindly e-mailed his congratulations when my son was admitted three years ago.

Thanks @cantiger for the reassuring post! I was panicking 10 minutes ago because I still haven’t received my interview notification, and I know at least one other SCEA applicant from my school has.

@Ambitious19 Based on your stats, you might be one of the super outstanding applicants who don’t need interviews!!!

Did anyone get\know anyone who got an LL already??

@Vbdunk - “super outstanding applicants” are not bypassed for interviews - Princeton tries to interview everyone if they have available alumni to do so. Please see my earlier post for how it works and this site for a brief reference: http://admission.princeton.edu/applyingforadmission/admission-faqs/interviews

Princeton does not give out likely letters to candidates other than recruited athletes (unless their process has changed very recently) who would otherwise be eligible to sign an NLI through the NCAA with another college during the early signing period, and Questbridge candidates who receive a formal acceptance early. I have heard that some of the other Ivys do but to my knowledge Princeton does not.

Does someone know how I can contact CollegeBoard to ask them if they sent my scores correctly? I looked on the website but there doesn’t appear to be a hotline specifically for the sat

on my common app, one letter in my first name is capitalized; on my sat, that letter isn’t capitalized. Can this be why Princeton can’t match my sat scores to my app?
