[quote]
Princeton University alumna Susan Patton, who is a member of the class of 1977, is sharing some wisdom with female students, but not everyone is taking kindly to it. [...] In the letter, Patton also says although “men regularly marry women who are younger and less intelligent…ultimately it will frustrate you to be with a man who just isn’t as smart as you.”

It appears that this story has now gone international with varied reactions. There is one persons reaction that Ill bet can be predicted at this point. I would guess that her son, who is a junior, is cringing right now. . .

I found this section from the ABC News story interesting.

Seems strange that she has sons and is giving this advice to other people’s daughters.
Why not advise Princeton males to find bright women there now so they can be assured of having spouses “worthy” of them?

I read it when it came out just because I was trying to learn about Princeton. People are really having a big fit about this random person’s opinion. :/

I personally thought this was hilarious. It’s cute for a mom to be giving us her advice. Some of us might not have liked that advice (or laughed, like I did).

Anyway, yeah, they are blowing this out of proportion. It’s just an old-fashioned mom, guys. I bet your mom also made a joke about this when you got into an Ivy League.

I finally made a little but of sense out of this. Susan Patton is recently divorced, which she attributes in part to her having a better educational pedigree than her ex-husband. I’m not saying she is correct, she may be wrong in thinking that her husband was intimidated by her having come from Princeton. Maybe it was her elitist attitude that put him off, it certainly put me off. Anyway, I think it is naive of her to think that a marriage to a Princeton man would have turned out any differently for her, most marriages end in divorce.
