Princeton and SAT II

Hey guys,

I am a junior this year and I am thinking about applying to Princeton this fall (aerospace major) and I have a few questions about the SAT II.

First off, I have a 34 ACT Comp (35 Superscore) along with a 4.0 unweighted GPA. I have also taken AP classes in calculus AB, physics 1 (alg based), and English this year; I got A’s in all subjects. I also have a summer job lined up at a small engineering firm this summer.

My question is in regards to the SAT II. I took mathematics level 2 and physics this weekend and realized that I have not learned most of what was on the physics test. I am taking them again in June and I know that I will not be able to learn a years worth of physics in one month along with taking AP tests and finals, so I have decided to just not take the physics test at all. I will probably take the math level 2 (I know that I can get an 800 or close) but I don’t know if it is worth taking the math level 1 as well. The Princeton website said that they recommend taking math level 1 or 2 and physics or chem (which I haven’t taken in a year) so I was wondering if I could squeeze in with just level 2 or if I should take level 1 as well?

Thanks in advance. Sorry about my poor writing skills, I am very tired

Taking both math levels won’t help… It mentions taking math I OR math II AND physics OR chem. I would recommend taking only math level II, and hope for the best if you don’t take physics or chem.

Take Math II only, most schools like Princeton will not want a Math I score.

Focus on doing something interesting this summer, something noteworthy that sets you apart from other candidates. Your scores and grades sound fine, but your competition have the same grades and scores. Your summer internship is a huge opportunity to do something amazing. Make the most if it.

The engineering department at Princeton is big on math and physics. Math II is not necessary if you have taken Math I. I am not sure if I understand you correctly but you will really need an SAT II physics or chemistry (physics is preferable for aerospace I believe) unless you have a compelling reason not to take it. While it is no longer specifically required, keep in mind that you will be competing against many, many other applicants who will have taken it.

Why don’t you just take Physics or Chemistry in the fall?
