I want to apply to PU engineering, but I have yet to take the math 2 exam. I plan on taking this in October. I want to apply SCEA, but I only have a 2250, and am confident that I can bring it up to a 2300+ with one more shot. If I just get an 800 in math, then my superscore will become a 2320. Nevertheless, if I take math 2 in October, then I will need to take the sat's for the 2nd time in november, which is kind of pushing it considering the last date to test in the EA round is November. Should I take the SAT's in october, and just forget about the SAT math2. I already have chem and physics subject tests, so I can just use those and apply as a physics major. What should I do?

Do not retake your 2250.

There is hardly any difference between a 2250 and a 2300. It’s not worth it. If you’re truly interested in engineering and want to be an engineering major at Princeton I would think taking the SAT Math 2 would be more important to you than bringing up your SAT I a negligible amount.

If you MUST, take the SAT I in November and send the score directly. But at this point I think you should be focusing on your Math 2.

I would agree that the SAT subject test in Math is a better option than trying to improve the SAT I, especially if you are considering engineering as a major. Applying as a physics major without a Math subject test doesn’t seem like a lot better option. Besides, if you really want engineering, apply for engineering. I really think sincerity beats trying to outwit the system.

A 2250 is a great score, but OP only has a 730 in math, which is on the lower end for engineering majors. I don’t know though. Ask your GC.

I also think the SAT II is better in OP’s case. 2250 is a great SAT I score, and it’s widely known that the grading on the SAT I math is tough. SAT II math 2c covers much higher level math and is a better indicator of a STEM applicant’s ability.

@Repede - I agree that 730 is on the lower end for an engineering major but the math subject test is required to apply BSE. And while the subject test isn’t required for physics majors, they need to have a strong math background as well so it will definitely not hurt to have it. If the OP does the subject tests first in Oct there is still time to submit a retake of SAT 1 scores from the November write if desired.
