Princeton App: Fav word?

“Myriad”… I’ve always loved that word for no apparent reason :)

hippopotamus. I was going to explain how it related to this commercial I saw as a child but decided against it.

I didn’t end up applying, but I was going to put “milquetoast”.

I put
“Yeah!”

including the exclamation mark.

I put Gyrfalcon.

Intense

(filling up char)

Controlled-chaos

Hopefully they don’t mind the hyphen.

OP here, finally went with ‘abecedarian’. It’s stupid but so was this question: honestly, I don’t have a favorite word (!), and regardless, how does this question yield any insight into an applicant’s potential fit at Princeton? I mean, I’ve enjoyed reading the responses in this thread but don’t really feel like your answers have given me any sort of picture into who you all are.

@Sparklesheen: I almost put mellifluous! I was deciding between that and another word.

I chose pinnacle.

I put really.

Wanted to put NO.

I put “Alas” and then had a side comment about how Alas, I do not know why it is my favorite word.

Younglings

I put yes. I really wanted to put s

I put “favourite” with a “u” because I’m British haha :)

quomodo:

Haha. Another school asked for an entire essay on a favorite word. 0_o. I ended up writing a poetic piece on “mellifluous”. :D

^ Was that UVA by any chance? I know they offered the option of writing a 250 word essay on your favorite word. I chose the prompt on your favorite place to get lost instead, though.

Yes, that was for UVA. I couldn’t think of an original place to get lost in… every possibility seemed hopelessly cliched.

I did a bookstore. Figured not too many people would pick that, and I wrote about it in a creative/interesting way. :)

I contemplated using something like “lost in my thoughts,” but then I decided that about two thousand other people would probably choose that. haha

Plus my nerdy / history-loving side adores going to Borders just to browse around.

i put the very pedestrian and unenthusiastic “yeah”
