Favorite Word: quick opinion please

My app is done. Just reviewing for submission. For my favorite word, I am considering answering: Yale (how's that for bold?).

Good or bad idea and any suggestions?

I think its really lame. Everyone who applies wants to go there. Show them some other facet of who you are.

Simply fantastic! This will get you in! Go with it confidently! But posting this here was a bad move, now everyone will plagiarize your idea.

Disregard what CHD said. It is really bold…it’s something I would never dare to do. But if you’re a strong candidate and think Yale and Princeton would fight over you, go for it!

Well I know I would be less than impressed if I were reading it. I don’t get it, what’s the point? I see no way in which this could do anything but hurt you.

Not a good idea imo. There are more scenarios where that harms you than helps you.

There is a fine line between bold and stupid. I think this one’s stupid.

The kindness of the forum never fails to astound me :stuck_out_tongue: I’m not doing it. I have a better one that ties in with my essay perfectly and no one has probably ever used it before. Also, I assume quite a few people have used the “Yale” thing before, not too difficult to figure out.

There is something to figure out? No, I think that was a wholly original thought. I’m sure it would have made you as welcome as a turd in their swimming pool. I like to imagine your application is filled with such witticisms. ;)

I don’t think the particular choice of a favorite word is even taken into consideration. . .

These questions are just there to ensure that you’re human.

^ Or maybe they are there to try to get a glimpse into your personality? Of course there is no objectively correct answer, but they might find someone with more genuine tastes more favorable than someone that seems to be pretending to be sophisticated or someone with juvenile responses.

But yeah, “Yale” seems like a pretty horrible idea in general. Jokes don’t always pass through text very well…

I honestly don’t think that’s a good idea…sorry. But, truly ask yourself about your favorite word. Does the sound of “Yale” really make you want to do a summersault or throw flowers everywhere? There are plenty of other options available that present your personality better. “Yale” is indeed bold, but when you look back on your application later, it may not seem like the best choice.

Didn’t do it already submitted it. Chose a different word.
