Princeton Class of 2020 EA Chances

I think that you have a very good chance. Are you planning on retaking any tests in the fall?

No - I need to focus on my senior year grades as IB gets intensive with Extended Essays, CAS Journals, and HL Math becomes basically Calc 3. I got a 620 on my SAT Chemistry subject test my sophomore year, but I had pneumonia and couldn’t concentrate while testing so I ran out of time. I will retake that test, but that’s it. U.S. History, Math II, Chem and Lit will be my subject tests some time throughout my senior year though. Lol. @TheWaffleMan149

Yes. you’re in. Enjoy the ride. I would be very surprised if you didn’t get in

Thank you! I shall keep you posted then; Princeton is my dream school and I would cry for days if I got in  @MrWiggles

I still think that you have a very good shot. Keep us posted!

^Also, please don’t hate on how I’m applying to all 8 of the Ivies - I need their financial assistance so badly because my parents CANNOT afford to pay for any tuition for me. I want to go to a top name school, but I also want to have the opportunities to work with world-renowned faculty. If applying to 8 means I get accepted to 1; I will still be elated.
We are low-middle class and the Ivies are very generous in terms of need based aid. As for the other schools, I just like them and have visited a few of them already!

I would say you do have a really good chance at Princeton! Especially if you apply EA. Your ECs are excellent, just make sure your essays are outstanding. As for all the other schools you listed, you should have no problem at all getting into UMD or American, and UVA should be fairly easy for you too. The rest I would say you still have a pretty good chance, it’s just hard to tell with the Ivys and top tier schools. Best of luck!

I know you’re set on going to an ivy, but don’t forget about other top schools. I know someone who was accepted into Yale eary action, but ended up choosing Duke after April 1st because duke offered him some crazy benefits and research opportunities over Yale (I believe). Another guy I know was accepted to Stanford but chose UMichigan because Stanford was too expensive. He didn’t get the aid he needed.

Thanks! @mlg0312 UMD, UMBC, and American are my “safeties” so to speak. Will keep you updated as I go through the admissions process!

@MrWiggles, Yeah - I am set on it, but I won’t be disheartened if I don’t get in. Especially if UMD offers me their full-tuition package, I’d be extremely happy! I’m just so nervous about what would stand out in my application. After reading my thread, what did you think stood out and what should I emphasize in my application? I want to major in Biochemistry, if that helps.

You’re a great applicant for pretty much all the schools haha. Your success in your rigorous course load combined with extensive extracurriculars and volunteer hours is admirable! As long as you rock those essays, I think you’ll definitely get into Princeton and your other schools

You’re an incredibly qualified applicant. Your personality kind of shows based on your responses and it’s easy to imagine an enthusiastic girl looking forward to her future. If you can reciprocate the small glimpse into your essay, I would say you have a great chance! I know some schools like Stanford (and Harvard I believe?) are more numbers oriented than their counterparts, but even they can’t turn away qualified applicants. I wouldn’t worry too much about scores as you’re still a strong candidate, but if you want, an attempt at 2200 would solidify most of your reaches into possible matches. You’ll definitely get into at least half of the schools on your schools - Ivies included- so no doubt you’ll have multiple opportunities come next April. And I don’t think anyone in our financial situation would slight you for your leaning towards the Ivies. My dad wants me to attend Harvard despite it not being my first choice because I’m pretty much guaranteed a full ride due to my income bracket as well their reputation. You’ll do fine! Princeton or not, you have a bright future ahead of you.

Wow, thanks so much for your comprehensive reply! My parents want me to attend Harvard as well, but will be happy with me attending any other schools as they have seen how hard I have been working the past 3 years. I would love to walk around my house sporting Ivy League shirts from the schools I (hopefully) get accepted to – but I honestly have to wait till April 2016 to know if my dream will become a reality. I wrote my Common App essay about my parents strive for education and how they struggled during the Somali Civil War. I explain it briefly, and spend the last half of my essay talking about how that drives me to be the self-motivated, opportunity seeker I am (or at least hope I am). I think the topic is a bit cliché, but common app does say to address a “background” my application would be incomplete without. I don’t know where else to talk about my Somali heritage and upbringings so I chose to do so in my Common App essay. Lol, sorry for the long reply but I really appreciate your response. Hopefully we both get into the schools of our choices. Best of luck to you, @PrideofCongo2020.

I wrote my Common App over how I failed to findy true self due to my desire to fit into American society and achieve standings that were relevant to acceptance. I talked about how immigration from the Congo incurred my plight, but I also talked about how my own personal “woes,” for a lack of a less sillier word…, kept me from truly becoming the person that I was destined to become and I have learned to be more accepting of myself, especially through my pursuit of academia. My last line is amazing in my opinion. I said that I still do not fully know who I am, but the correct environment will unravel enigmas unknown even to me. More elegantly said, of course. My dad doesn’t like Stanford as much as Harvard, but truthfully, I would be happy with any school on my list. I had to take off Emory because I was hesitant, and I figured that meant I wasn’t serious enough about attending (one less supplement!). I think my topic is a bit cliche too, but I’m hoping my approach isn’t. Good luck you as well, @Princetonian2020.

My last line of my essay was something along the lines of thanking my parents for providing me with the integrity and spirit that I now hold near and dear. @PrideofCongo2020 Your topic is extremely interesting and I’m sure the adcoms would see it as unique and fit for admission!

I think your probably in

I think if you make clear what your ambition is in your essay or through your application it’ll be hard for you not to gEt in. Shout out the my DMV person

@T26E4 I saw your comments on several threads and I was wondering if you think I have a realistic chance. Obviously a lot of people believe that I do, but I want to hear your opinion.

I’m super redundant but I’ll chance you since you asked. Your extracurriculars are awesome and with higher SAT/ACT scores you’ll be a highly competitive applicant. Good luck. I honestly hate chance-ing (is that what it’s called…?) because I’m not an admissions officer but from what I’ve seen, as long as you’re not super high income, your stats are solid. You CC people are really making me feel so uncomfortable about my extracurriculars. I have like nothing.
