@16512read I certainly hope not, since I only have three years and I ended my language study sophomore year.
Are you guys going to submit resumes with your applications?
@scarletwitchx if they have a place for it, I might. But I don’t want to keep beating to death the same things I wrote in my application. On the other hand, it might make you more competitive against a sea of other applicants.
@scarletwitchx If you do you should probably make sure you include stuff not talked about in your application. Maybe independent activities or volunteering outside of school?
@Dolemite Thank you!! The links were pointing me to the 2015 version, so this is VERY helpful!
Ugh, I just want the Princeton supplement to go live! I’m ripping out my hair waiting! I have my essays written, recs submitted, and I’m ready to apply cause I’m so nervous!
Yay! The supplement is up!!!
How are you guys tackling the supplements? Answering straight forward? Or throwing in ya style?
Throwing in my flare, obviously;)
Throwing in my style! Hopefully Princeton will take pity on my poor attempts at humor and admit me.
yup trying to be as original as I can be
Princeton: “This kid tries way too hard to make jokes, maybe he’ll try extremely hard at our school?”
@RoadTriptoCollege2017 This is accurate
Hey guys! I’m definitely applying to Princeton & UVA early (like @mackyg). If I get into Princeton, well, that’s the end of my search
2 quick questions -
If I have an acting resume (listing all the roles I’ve played in all the shows I’ve done) but I don’t plan to study theater (though I would love to continue it extracurricular-ly) would it make sense to send that in? I probably couldn’t send that in along with an official resume, right?
Also, I’ve been playing guitar and singing for the last few years as a hobby. I’ve been told that I’m pretty good, but I know that I’m not SUPERB (and once again, not something I am interested in ‘concentrating’ in). I also run a small youtube channel (~250 subscribers) where I sing & play. Would it be worth mentioning the channel, and would it make sense to submit an arts supplement of me singing & playing?
Thanks guys and I hope to see you all next year!
@gmanhax You can mention singing and guitar but the channel means nothing with that subscriber account tbh, I have a channel with 5-6k subs and am not reporting it at all
@RoadTriptoCollege2017 Sure, but what kind of content do you post? Is it content you film and edit yourself that’s original and creative, or is it something to the tune of “funniest vines compilation” or something like that? I made a minecraft video 3 years ago with 4.3 million views but I’m definitely not mentioning that.
I’m not trying to be condescending, but I do think it depends more on what the channel is about than the number of subscribers. If it adds another layer to you and makes you more interesting, I would add it in. I guess I should’ve rephrased my question as:
“If I mention my youtube channel, is there any chance that the adcom would actually search it up and watch a video or two?”
Thanks for your feedback tho
@gmanhax Cool beans we’re doing the same thing! And I think that even though you’re not going to pursue acting that at least it shows you have a passion for something and you’re not focused entirely on school so I’d say go for it. It wouldn’t hurt to send in a video of you singing and playing either I think it makes your application more human
Is it weird to have Fandom-blogging as an acitivity on my common app? For the description, I was going to say that I write creative fanfiction that usually addresses LGBT topics and I also run an Instagram fan account that has nearly 15k followers. Is that strange or would that help my application?
@mackyg I mean I wouldn’t put it as your #1 activity but weird is good, it gives the adcom a whiff of YOU… because we’re all a little weird right? I think they would be happy to see that, actually; I remember actually seeing “LGBT” on the drop down list for “type of activity” so go for it!
A small anecdote from my son’s app last year, he made a small website that showed one of his ECs, he put the url in the additional info section of the common app. After he was admitted SCEA, I got curious and pulled the logs to the site. Sure enough, a visitor within the Princeton IP range visited several pages about 2 weeks after SCEA deadline. They cruised several pages for about 10 minutes. So, atleast this one time, the adcoms did look up an applicants’s site.
