Princeton Class or 2021 EA / RD Application thread

@scarletwitchx I think we can!

Hey @Nifty88, your school adviser would be correct. You want every response in your application (Common App and Princeton supplements) to shed a new light on who you are. In other words, you want to continuously reveal more about yourself. When it comes to talking about your two summers, you should discuss the experiences and events that mattered most to you during those seasons. For example, I love writing with a fiery passion. I talked about how I used those summers to write extensively and conduct research for my writings. Ultimately most of those short stories and poems I wrote during my summers became part of the anthology I would soon publish. I also mentioned any trips (just for vacation) I took the past two years (NYC; Ocean City, Maryland; etc.) and discussed briefly on what I did there. Don’t stress too much about that response. Just discuss or elaborate on anything that wasn’t really brought up in your application and, of course, that highlighted your past two summers. I apologize for the late response! I hope you found this helpful.

Iffy about whether or not I’ll be applying to Princeton or not… I really love everything about the school besides the fact that it doesn’t have the majors I want. Planning on visiting my friend who goes there sometime in early October to have a better idea :slight_smile:

How much do you guys think the essay really matters? I hope it matters a good amount, because it might be the tipping point for me :slight_smile:

Assuming you are an otherwise viable candidate, essays are vital to setting applicants apart.

May I also add that it’s helpful to keep a question to a single thread? You’re more likely to receive the best and most coherent line of responses.

My son is a white upper middle class young man who was an excellent student,but did not have 4.0 or perfect Sats He applied EA last year and was admitted to the Class of 2020, despite the odds being against it. I am convinced it was his essays and recommendations which put him in the “admit” pile as they powerfully reflected his unique and authentic self.

I somehow managed to not realize that Princeton wants two SAT subject tests until now… (Whoops) I’m registered to take them on the November test date, can I still apply EA and have them get the scores on time?

@res0601 Yes: “Single-choice early action candidates are strongly encouraged to complete their testing before the Nov. 1 deadline. Students taking standardized tests in November should have their scores sent directly to Princeton.”

When do I have my counselor send in the mid-year report for EA? I’m guessing after first semester grades are done?

@folkiestcat Yes! From what my counselor said, they send an official transcript which just shows past grades, GPA, and the courses you are taking currently. However, it does not show your in-progress grades. If you were to be admitted, your counselor would send your mid-year report (first-semester grades) to Princeton in the winter.

Whoot whoot! I’m all in Princeton early action! Anyone excited to be sending in early apps in a couple of days? Like, how are we applying to college already! Time flies! :wink:

I’m applying SCEA to Princeton too!

Quick Question: If I have a 3 on my Physics AP but 800 on my Subject Test and a 98/100 as a Predicted score, does it balance out?

@icarus29 Don’t bother reporting the AP Score

@Icarus29 @Dolemite I disagree, I would report the 3. If you don’t, they assume the worse and think you failed or was too lazy to take the test. And with your 800, the 3 won’t even hurt you

@icarus29 I don’t think you should report them. I don’t know much about AP’a but with schools like Princeton I don’t think you want to give them any reason to reject you. Think of this: if you didn’t get in you would regret sending your scores to Princeton. And @deeeznuts I don’t think that they judge students based on how many tests they have taken rather they judge students on how well they did on the tests they did take. .

Guys, context: In my school, or in India as a general thing, they don’t offer AP courses. They only take AP exams. So, would it be seen as a positive thing that I tried taking the AP even without a course, and got a 4 on chem and a 3 on Physics, or is it just stupid?

If you do not have a corresponding AP Physics class on your transcript then it is a no-brainer, do not self report a 3!

@planner03 thanks for the advice!
Have all of you sent your applications?

Haven’t sent it in yet, but I will have by the end of this weekend. I also have an arts supplement to worry about (I have until November 7th for that, but still…)

Starting to write my supplements for SCEA today…
Crap.
