Princeton engineering essay - 650 words

Right now my essay is sitting at 650 words (3970 characters). I know the recommended limit is ~500 words, but I'm kinda having trouble cutting it down. Since it's less than the 4000 character limit, should I even bother trimming it down?

Nah, you’re an engineer. They don’t expect you to be able to read instructions carefully anyway.

okay, i’ll try to bring it down to ~500 words.

another question: the engineering prompt asks to write about any experiences you have had in engineering. my main experience has been summer research, which i already covered in the “2 summers” essay. Is it too redundant to talk about summer research in both essays? Should I focus on something else in my 2 summers one? Sorry if I’m overthinking this, but I really really want my app to be as good as possible.
