Thank you @fretfulmother ! Those answers really help? Are you an alumna or PTon or MIT?
Also, for the engineering essay, if I were to write about my experience in my start in CompSci with app development and website creation, would that hold any weight if they never were popular or even survived that long? They specifically ask for what experience you have with engineering.
@codemachine - Thanks! I am an alumna of MIT, but it was a hard choice between there and Princeton. Both are obviously fantastic places and it is sheer luck for anyone to have that choice LOL. And it would be even harder nowadays!
I donât know anything about what to put in the engineering essay - maybe someone with more recent experience could weigh inâŠ
Im going into 8th grade and when I review many of the applications on this site I get extremely worried. Please tell me if I have a chance of going to Princeton/Stanford and if not what can I change so I do have a good chance (as I said before I have 4 years until I apply). My SAT is a 2100 and I have a 4.0 GPA UW. I plan on taking accelerated courses over the summer do I can do Calc BC in my Junior year. I got to a NJ public school where 5 kids got accepted to Princeton last year. Im taking an entrepreneurial course at Princeton this fall and I plan on takibg many more in the coming years. Im really interested in investing and ive been taking college courses online to gather more info on security analysis. I plan on starting a Balkan club and a Water Polo club at my High School (when I get there) I plan on volunteering during my High School years. I play soccer and water polo on Princeton teams (wp coached by a Princeton University coach) i dont plan on doing any research papers and instead ill focus on my stock investing track record. Im also in the Johns Hopkins Center For Talented Youth. What can I do to get better? Any help is greatly appreciated!
The good news is, itâs not too late to âget better.â Donât waste any more of your precious childhood on investing or security analysis because you might want to have a fresh outlook as an adult if those things still interest you. While the Balkan club sounds intriguing (do the members fragment and go to war with one another?) you have at least two weeks left of the summer and if youâre not already outdoors, get out there as soon as possible, preferably with a friend or two and some drinking water. Find a playground, park, pool, or wild area and unleash your imagination. Do you know the names of the constellations above your bedroom ceiling? Why donât you learn to identify them and read the stories behind the names. While youâre looking in the night sky you just might see a meteor. Princeton and Stanford will always be there but the summer is wasting.
Iâm planning to apply to Princeton SCEA. Does anyone know the requirements for arts supplements, specifically music performance? The website does not have any info up yet, but perhaps a current student or previous applicant might know. Are there guidelines with specific styles or time periods?
@kirito69 You might want to take a cold shower instead, but if you really need to know just google: âlittle entryway 9â Princeton. Stay classy man.
@princeton2024 if you havenât started winning national awards by now it will be pretty hard. you need a 2400 SAT to be considered if you donât have a hook. princeton doesnât care about college courses unless theyâre princeton-level courses. also, starting clubs donât matter unless they become very very successful.
@lefthandofdog southern constellations are a bitch. if you do learn stuff about constellations, just skip the southern sky please.
@HariboGoldBear no unless you have at least two strong hooks.
A lot of legwork. You have to email lots and lots of professors, ask friends, relatives and teachers if they know of any opportunities or apply to organized summer research programs. The very best ones are generally low or no cost and that you are a rising senior but there are ones for underclassmen as well.
@Falcon1 I am a sophmore interested in doing research into poltiical science/ public policy. I have found a couple professors at my local university, but they have doctorates, and seem to have done what they are doing for a while. What is the best way to aproach them? Should I send them a proposal of what I want to do? Ask them whatâs up/ if they need any help?
I have a good âother recommenderâ for the common app (not teacher/counselor). I do not see a place on Princetonâs recommendation section in which you can use an âother recommenderâ. Will I really have to ask my recommender to snail mail her recommendation to Princeton? Lots of other schools donât have this section, but I have noticed that Harvard and Stanford do. All advice is welcome.
What did you current students do during your high school summers? In my region I am not eligible to get a job yet, and I have not found any interesting, meaningful summer programs in my area of interest, humanities/ social science .
