Princeton Review's claim

it claims to increase your score by 200 points. i'm not talking about the book, i'm talking about the course. has anyone taken it and noticed drastic improvement or is it just bs?

it's bs the class is a waste of time i went up 90 points from my first pr test to my real SAT but i think its due to the fact that pr makes their tests harder on purpose

They actually guarantee a 200-point increase now, so I don't think it's b.s. If you don't go up by 200 points but attended all the lectures, did the homework, etc., you can retake for free.

DJ, when I asked them what test they use to calculate the increase, they say it's either your last official SAT test (you show them your score report) or the diagnostic you take in the first class if you haven't taken the official test yet. It has to be a proctored test. But I don't think their tests are harder than the actual SAT...if you haven't prepped at all yet for the SAT then yeah, that first test is going to be harder (my first practice test score during self prep was embarrassing!!!).

I took the princeton review course b4. The course/ class makes you take 3 tests over their entire course. The 1st test is a diagnostic test... it was so damn hard I almost fell asleep after section 5. Then in the last test (test 3) they made the math and reading sections uber easy... so i went up 160 points... but still it was stupid b/c they purposely alter the tests to show an "improvement."

you can learn all their tricks by buying their 11 SAT book and cracking the SAT book- or from any other reliable prep book.

Also, it depends on where your starting score is. Mine was 1900 ish so it wasn't that big of an improvement because I think taht once you get into the 2000's it gets progressively harder to improve. If your original score was 1800 or higher, the class will not help.

don't do it.

just a thought.... what if you had a say... 2210 before you took the course... would they guarantee a 2410? or even a 2400? :P just had to share.

They will make you take a diagnostic test and the score on that is what the 200 point guarantee is based on. However, this diagnostic test is super hard so it's just that much easier for them to get their guarantee. Also, the last test is super easy, so it makes it look like you have improved.

The 200 point guarantee isn't a scam, but it's not as good as it seems. In reality, it's probably around 100ish points because the first diagnostic test will make you seem 100+ points lower than you're capable of. Personally, if you are an above average student it's a waste of time. PR's methods are for average students. I would just recommend doing your own self studying and/or have a private tutor.

heheh then u can just bs on the last test on PURPOSE..and get -200 points then ur first test..and like sue them or something...hahahha..Take that PR...

No the guarantee is based on your actual SAT. Haha no one would ever get the guarantee if they did it off the last diagnostic test.

then Mess up on the SAT on purpose..who cares...its a free course isnt it ? :)

PR is a complete waste of time and money. When I went, the instructor couldn't divide 9/6. 9/6!!!!! I basically had to teach the class because everyone asked me their questions.

Their books are good, but some of their instructors (it's luck of the draw) are lousy.

PR will help if you are an average or below-average student. If you're better than that, buy the book and review on your own.

And then there's the car ride there. Only after the grace period did I realize it was a waste of time and money (the gas too).

I didn't get a 200 point increase, but I'm not going back either..

my score from the first diagnostic test to the real SAT increased by 260 points, but i dont think iits due to the course, i am confident i would have reached that if i worked by myself. word of advice, do not waste ur money.
