Hello, I was wondering if my SAT 2 scores would arrive on time to Princeton for early action if I were to take the November test? On the website, it said that November testing is allowed, yet October testing is strongly encouraged.

So, I was wondering if taking the November test will still be okay even if the school is not encouraging it.
Will taking the November test have any negative influences to the admission?

If you are taking the test in the US then yes you are fine to take it in November. International students need to take the test by October from what I recall. There is no negative association with taking the test in November…applicants may have a number of valid reasons for taking it when they do and you are not required to explain your reason for doing so.

A word of experience - don’t bother “rushing” your test scores for the added cost. If Princeton says they will arrive on time, they will. Primarily these scores are only used to verify what is submitted on your application anyway so it really isn’t a big deal unless there turns out to be a discrepancy. Do have your scores sent directly to the school you are applying to early however. And when the scores are perpetually late appearing on your file, take a deep breath and try not to worry.

@Cantiger Thanks for your reply! I am an international student (from Canada). I have never seen any comments indicating the international students have to take the tests before November. Do you remember where you saw it?

Also, what do you mean by these scores are used to verify what I wrote on common app? If I take the test in November, I won’t have any scores to verify since I don’t know the score…?

I already took 2 subject tests, but I am not happy with one of them. It is below the scores of the accepted students that are listed on the Princeton website. Do you recommend that I send that score, or send the new score in November?

I think the wording on the website has changed since we went through the admissions process 3 years ago…sorry for the confusion. It looks as though for early action you need to have everything completed by Nov 1 to be able to use score choice (selecting your best scores and submitting those only). If you want to take your chances that your scores will be better in Nov, you can have them sent directly to Princeton by the College Board. Could you take the test in October instead?

@cantiger I’m so sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately, no. I took the reasoning test on October. What was the process like three years ago? Could you have chosen not to submit your SAT score even if you took the test in November?

Furthermore, the website states that students are “strongly encouraged” to complete the testing by November 1st, so do you think taking the test in November will be bad?

It’s hard to remember exactly how it worked back then! But if I recall correctly internationals (which my son is) were required to complete the test by Nov 1 and it was “strongly encouraged” for US residents. So for my son, the November date was not an option. However if he’d wanted to apply to other schools (he didn’t since he was admitted EA) he could have still taken the test in in November and had those scores sent to those other schools. The difficulty with the November date for you will be that you need to have your scores sent directly to Princeton without seeing them first and deciding if you want to send them or not, to be eligible to have them included with the EA pool.
