Princeton SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

@meaa7130 So sorry for the late response, but yes, my GC sent it to the posted Princeton admission’s email!

@cantiger I applied as an engineering applicant, but am a little worried about the special committee that reviews applications. My school barely offers any AP courses, and AP physics isn’t even an option! We do physics freshman year, and that is the only physics option. I’ve taken all the science courses my school offers, plus self-studied two, and am in the highest level math (AP Stat - I have already taken AP Calc AB and we don’t have BC). Is there any hope for me? Will they

@RoadtotheIvies98 I have heard the exact same thing about AP tests not really mattering in admissions. I hope that is the case…while all my exams were 5s, I had one fluke and ended up with a 3 that still haunts me today…

do you all think they would “weigh” someone with an AP calc AB score of 4 and SAT2 800 higher than someone with a BC Calc score of 5 and SAT2 of 770? People seem really focused on getting an 800 SAT2 but it doesn’t even test calculus and presumably Calc BC is more relevant to higher math classes? thoughts?

@anon145 I would think the BC Calc score would be the most impressive. BC is much harder than the AB test. Regarding the SAT2 comparison, those tests are now optional, not even required. Also, the difference between a 770 and 800 on the SAT2 Math test is nominal. Using your comparison, I think the latter is much more impressive than the former.

@collegebound1915 - Yes, there is hope. You exhausted the opportunities available at your school; they’ll understand and won’t penalize you for your school’s limitations.

I was just going through my old notebook which has 50 different “institution profiles” that I researched and I realized how much effort I put into my Princeton application. It took me two years to conjure the courage to apply to Princeton and I take pride in being the first person at my school to decide to apply to US universities. My chances seem bleaker by the day, but I’m not disappointed.I’m ready for whatever the committee throws my way. Whether it’s a rejection, a deferral or an acceptance, I’ll make sure I keep my chin up and prepare for what’s yet to come.

I’m proud of my A-Level grades. I’m proud of my not so stellar SAT score. I’m proud of my essays. I’m proud of my art supplement. I’m proud of my decision NOT to take SAT Subject tests. I feel extremely blessed to have been given the opportunity to go further than any of my classmates have ever gotten. This application means so much more to me than a chance at a prestigious institution, it represents my yearning for something greater than myself and my desire to go beyond what my opportunities have set for me.

Take pride in what you all have achieved! Take a step back and think about the bigger picture…

Wishing you all the best

For the email regarding the Financial Aid, when you sent it did they reply and confirm they received it?

@meaa7130 I emailed them the next day with PDFs attached, haven’t gotten any confirmation yet.

Same for us - no confirmation. Hub faxed the documents the next day & included a printed copy of the email.

Just joining in. I did receive the financial aid email and sent them the requested information. They sent a personal email back the next day confirming they received my information. Two days later I received another email request for financial information which had already been submitted; I gladly provided it again.

Haven’t received any confirmation yet.

@longdog When did you receive the financial aid email?

This first time I was contacted was on November 24th. When did everyone else receive their emails? I haven’t had a chance to look at previous posts.

@longdog We all got ours on December 2nd. That was the day this thread blew up in size (we went from page 24 to page 30 due to the email, I believe). :stuck_out_tongue:

Was that first email regarding the PFAA form or your 2014 tax returns and W-2 statements? I know that one version of the email is sent to applicants who indicated that they wanted Financial Aid but haven’t filled the PFAA form, while the other is sent to applicants who have already filed the PFAA form but haven’t sent in their tax returns or W-2 statements.

In addition, did you receive a confirmation email to your second reply?

@sugar98 That’s such a wonderful statement! I agree with you — the fact that we all worthy enough to be considered by Princeton is an amazing feat in itself. I too am proud of my application, and if Princeton does not see it as such, then it is a mistake by Princeton and not by me.

If Princeton ends up deferring you, or any other person on this thread, it would only be Princeton’s loss! Decision day is not the day we see if we are worthy enough for Princeton, but the day we see if Princeton is worthy enough for us. We may not have a choice in regards to where we go for the next four years, but we do have the choice of choosing what we do during those years. And in the end, it is the latter that defines who we are, and not the former.

Our success is chosen by ourselves and not by the school we go to. Princeton may help to make this journey easier, but isn’t needed to complete it. I know that you guys will all do great wherever you end up!

My point exactly @azwu331! It’s funny how I stopped counting down the days till the 15th…still nervous though!

It took the financial aid office two days for them to confirm that they’ve received my PFAA supporting documents. I’d suspect it would take longer for them to send out written responses as the deadline approaches so don’t sweat it!

My financial aid inquiries where supporting document questions. I just had a chance to look back through some of the post. I didn’t ask my guidance counselor to send my quarter grades. I wonder if it is too late now?

Oops, they didn’t send a confirmation after the second inquire for the documents they already had.

Also, looking at the results from the survey on Post #577, it seems that we have a bit more BSE applicants on this thread than average. I don’t know if there are more BSE applicants this year, or if more BSE applicants participate in this thread, but I’ll wait until the day before decisions (when everyone will be on this thread) and see. Right now the sample size is a bit small.

Here are the results as of this moment:
AB: 18
BSE: 8

PSA: If you haven’t completed the survey yet, please go to Page 39 and read through the instructions on Post #577. I’m trying to formulate a rough estimate of Princeton’s AB/BSE applicant percentages in the SCEA season, since Princeton does not release those statistics (they do, however, release AB/BSE acceptance percentages, so this information could be useful in the future). Completing the poll won’t take too long (just clicking a button), and will probably help out many Princeton applicants in the years to come. Thanks!

Also, just in case an old post gets deleted and this survey is no longer Post #577, you can click this link to go to it. Or you can just use this link right now to get there: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/19018299/#Comment_19018299

@longdog You can still send Princeton your quarter grades. It’s not too late yet.
