Princeton SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

The PFA is due today. You don’t have to submit definite numbers until your parents file. You still have time.

I submitted the PFA today, can I send my parents W-2 and things tomorrow?

About follow-up materials:

(Your answer is ‘yes,’ but actually they want the filed 2015 return. So the better answer is when they file, send that. Have them give you last year’s return, and send that this week if you have it.)

Q. What happens if my PFAA is late?

A. We encourage you to submit your PFAA by the deadline we suggest. This is to ensure that we will have adequate time to review your application before admission decisions are mailed. However there are no penalties for late submission and late applications will receive the same consideration for aid as those received on time.

Q. Should I send in a tax return or any other forms when I submit the PFAA?

A. While the PFAA (and Non-custodial Parent’s Form in some cases) is all that is required initially for your financial aid application, we do recommend that you send a copy of your parents’ 2015 federal tax return as soon as it is available.

For some reason I thought the PFAA deadline was Nov. 15? I already sent the PFAA a few weeks back even before submitting my app. but I need to send some corrections and supporting documents. Any idea if I can do that next week? I sent an email to the Financial Aid office and I’m waiting for a reply…

Is it just me or is everyone here planning to major in engineering? :stuck_out_tongue:

The determination made if they make an offer of admission during SCEA is one based on the information they have at the time of your application submission. They say they can revise it, but it is to your advantage to submit all documents for this round as early as possible.

@azwu331 applied math and biophysics here!

The financail aid office got back to me saying that “although the deadline has passed, we are still accepting financial aid documents.” Not sure how much time they’ll give me but i’m guessing a week?? Any idea, @Waiting2exhale ?

@azwu331 Architecture for me!!! I want this so bad lol

@sugar98 - They’ll give you a lot more time than you’ll need. In fact, if you’re accepted you can wait to apply for FA until after you’ve enrolled and they’ll still give you aid for your freshman year. The only downside to waiting too long is that you won’t get your aid notification with your SCEA decision. Good luck!

When we log on to the tracking system it says your application is complete. Does anyone have anything else on their screen? I thought you could see what they have received. Or does this mean that the common app is complete but they have not matched anything else up to it? Thanks

^^^my question too. I received an email saying my app was complete yesterday, and I checked the website today morning and it said the same thing, but I wanted to know what exactly they had received since I sent my slightly better SAT after I sent my ACT and I wanted to know if they got that score.

Thank you, @sherpa! @momofthree55, I thought I’d see more on the screen but it also said that my application is now complete and it showed my name and my birthday. Nothing else. I expected it would take some time for them to match my SAT scores to my file but as it turns out, they’re efficient!

On another note, does anybody know how long they take before they schedule interviews? I’m international but I know for a fact that there are at least two alumni in my area and one of them does interviews…

if princeton is missing something from the materials my counselor was to send will they contact the counselor? i’m pretty sure he sent in everything early last week but the portal says they still dont have my letters, transcript, and school report. they have received my common app and test scores however. i know it probably takes time to process the materials, but how long should i wait before getting worried/contacting admissions?

I was emailed about an interview today. Does anyone know what sort of questions they will ask? Is it just the basic, why are you applying here or will it be hard?

@asappebble It’s okay - it takes some time for all the documents to appear on the portal as “received”. We went through the same thing when my son applied in 2011 but it simply took some time and then it appeared. It’s a nerve wracking time for everyone who is in the application process (we remember it vividly) but you may be assured that Princeton admissions is quite relaxed and understanding about delays in receiving materials. If anything is missing it will appear as not being received on the portal, however I would give it a couple weeks as things sometimes trickle in. If your counselor missed anything it certainly would not be held against you!

@Izha97 Princeton alumni interviewers are not expected to follow a standard interview process so it will vary from one interviewer to another. The weight of the interview is negligible and I believe would only affect your application negatively if there were a glaring issue that presented in the interview. Otherwise see it as an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the school. During my son’s interview, his interviewer actually talked much more than my son did! But it was a good experience and when my son was accepted he received an e-mail of congratulations from the alum.

Thank you so much @cantiger  that helps to know!

I feel like our essays will be the most important part of our application, as everyone here is more than qualified for admission. That’s why the ivies are such a crapshoot; it might just come down to who reads your application.

That also makes the wait so much harder… :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, just to start a conversation, which essay supplement option did you guys pick? I chose the “tell us about a person who has influenced you in a significant way” prompt (Option #1).
