nothing makes me happier than the support on this thread. ~:>
How do people know how many kids their schools &/or school districts accept into Ivies? Is it something their GC puts together or are the stats on their school district site? It’s all gotten me really curious to see if any from the ps my son attended are ever accepted. I know that zero Ivies were at its small college fair last year, and it’s not a well-ranked school.
@FarscapeFan I go to a small parochial school. We use a program called Naviance to see where others in our school have applied/been accepted. Since your son is homeschooled though, I don’t know if you have any way to access this info…possibly call a school district official?
@52balletvieta That was absolutely beautiful. It’s incredible to see a dancer with such remarkable musicality AND technical prowess. Bravo!!
P.S. I agree with @morrisk - huge fan of Le Corsaire! Wish it got the same amount of popular attention as the Tchaikovsky triad. Alas. Should we start a fan club?
10000% down for a fan club just sayin @elk1819
@FarscapeFan Most schools that use Naviance (my local schools included) will give a guest login to the system that will let you check how many were accepted to which colleges
@elk1819 What school/subject did you interview for? I interviewed for History and Politics at Oxford on Thursday! Unfortunately, I had to do the interview over Skype because of the short notice/expensive plane tickets.
@scienceNerd15 omg no way! I just finished my interviews for French at Christ Church, Oxford! I was only able to fly over because we had miles stored up, thank goodness. Which college interviewed you?
@azwu331 & @QCprincetonian You both seem extremely knowledgeable. I am curious how impactful legacy and/ or sibling preference is? If a student has one or both, are they given passes in any respect (i.e. accepted even if they don’t have a ton of awards)?
@elk1819 Merton College! I feel like we’re really lucky because even if we’re deferred from Princeton, we get to hear back from another amazing school only three weeks later.
Thank you so much @elk1819 !!
@morrisk Le Corsaire is pretty fantastic!! I would say my ultimate dream role is Nikiya though!
@scienceNerd15 So true! And wow, History and Politics at Merton is no joke, especially as an international student… major props to you for getting an interview! I had a friend who interviewed for Politics at Christ Church (and St. John’s), and he said that in both interviews they asked him exclusively about British politics: contemporary relevance of Magna Carta, Labour leadership, etc. What sorts of questions did they ask you?
Does anyone know how much weight the interview has? Mine was nothing like the typical coffee shop ones described on here (for example, we had the interview at a clinic, and my interviewer graduated when Princeton was all-male). Because of the age gap and lack of similarities (he’s a doctor, while I’m going for English), I feel like we just didn’t connect very well, even when the interview lasted for more than an hour. I was able to answer all his questions fairly well, but there just wasn’t a ‘click’, you know? I know it’s all subjective, but still.
@jordanh16 I think the interview has very little weight. I was interviewed by the head of our local alumni committee and he said at the beginning, “This interview can’t really help or hurt your chances.”
@elk1819 I’ll DM you.
Hello, everyone! I was just wondering two things: I said that I was applying for financial aid in my Common App, but I didn’t fill out the FERPA form because later my family’s financial situation improved. The Princeton financial aid office emailed me asking if I still intended to apply for financial aid, and I said no. Is this annoying enough that it will impact my admissions decision? Secondly, how much of an impact does an arts supplement have? I do theater, musical theater, and vocal music, but I’m only mediocre. However, it is one of my main three extracurriculars. I didn’t submit an arts supplement because I don’t think that I am good enough to get a rating that will actually help me, and I am afraid that my supplement may actually end up hurting me. Seeing my friends who submitted arts supplements get into Penn, Columbia, and Stanford, I am starting to have second thoughts.
Sorry to bring this up again, but u guys are sure that the confirmation for the fins kcal aid W2 forms has no meaning right? I submitted my financial aid form but will most likely not receive any, and most kids in my situation or who did not even apply for aid did not get the confirmation.
@DonkeyKong466 Quite positive. Many individuals last year did not receive a confirmation yet got in and many who did receive an email did not, according to some previous posts on this thread. I haven’t looked myself.
I’m really not sure what to make of everything. I didn’t turn in the needed tax forms, yet received no email asking for them, which I took as a bad sign. Then the beginning of this week, my counselor was called about first quarter grades, which implies that I at least didn’t get rejected up to that point… I think I’m just going to prepare for a deferral but hope for the best.
If deferred from Princeton’s SCEA, would I be able to apply ED2 elsewhere?
