Princeton Summer Journalism Program 2020

Is anyone planning on applying to the Princeton Summer Journalism Program this year?

hi, @ladybird03 ! yes, I plan on applying to the program.

@jinglebells09 Ah cool! I am as well.

Nice! Just out of curiosity, where are you applying from? (I’m from Detroit.)

@jinglebells09 I’m from Florida!

Sweet! Did you submit your application? I did last night, haha. Just hoping I’ll be able to make it to the second round.

@jinglebells09 Yeah I submitted i a few days before the deadline! I hope we both make it to the second round. Good luck!!

second rounds came out! who else got it?

i did! excited but nervous for the next round

Hello, I also go into the second round but my school was recently closed due to the coronavirus. I’m super nervous because I am unable to get the documents because of these closings. I’m sending so many emails out to my counselors to get these documents also I’m hoping this program still goes on this summer!

I got into the second round as well! They just sent an email about school districts so hopefully they give us more info soon! @rosyred

Does anyone know what the interview is like? Is it more about yourself or your interests or what you accomplished?

Thank you!

Hi! I’m an applicant myself (I noticed your comment was from about a week and a half ago), have you had your interview yet? Unfortunate that it’ll be virtual :frowning:

I haven’t had my interview yet and they did not contact me about it yet. Has anyone gotten an email scheduling the interview yet?

Not me, the email did say it might take several weeks to get a reply based on when they received your documents tho. Hopefully we’ll get word soon

Hey, I recently just had my meeting Sunday afternoon (I mailed my stuff out pretty early, like early March I think). As for the meeting she was really nice (not intimidating at all!) but I was really nervous and my internet was acting up so I kinda struggled with hearing her questions, adding that on top of my nervousness. As for the questions, they were pretty straight forward and a few qts about our current government. But that was for my meeting, I can’t say it’ll be the same for everyone else! Best of luck  !

Wow! I hope it went well for you! Thanks for your response. I still haven’t gotten an email scheduling one, and I’m nervous because I’m pretty swamped this week. It’s okay if you don’t feel like answering, but did they reference your application at all? Or were the questions like stuff they could generally ask any applicant? Thanks!

Thanks!
And how and when did you send your documents? Did you at least get a confirmation that they received them?

As for the interview, they were pretty general questions, I recall one about our 2020 presidential candidates and another one about the worst thing our government has done.
They didn’t specifically reference my application but they did touch basis with a few questions on there (to be safe, make sure your answer is consistent with what you put on your application). But then again, don’t 100% count on what I’m telling you from my interview, it could be a different set of qts for you!

Thanks so much for your answers lol! I sent mine pretty early, but their mailing was backed up, so they confirmed mine really late because initially they didn’t receive the mail or it was backed up for 2 weeks or something. And WOW, that “worst thing our gov has done” is such a loaded question! It’s such a great one, and there’s so many diverse answers we could give to that one. I like how their questions really delve into what you care about and follow-up with in your spare time. I was concerned their questions would be kind of financial-based, which is kind of fine but also a bit awkward lol and I’m not like well-versed in tax return stuff LOL

Hi everyone,

I haven’t gotten an interview date … does that mean I won’t be getting one ? I’m really bumped out that I haven’t received an email yet ?. Do you receive an email a week in advance or was it a couple days before ?
