Hi, I'm looking to get everyones opinion on what makes each of the top schools unique, and decided I might as well start at the top of the US News Rankings :) So, for all of you for whom Princeton is yourfirst choice, what makes it more appealing to you than another school of similar academic quality? Thanks for your responses.

because it emphasizes the undergrads unlike some other ivies, has a beautiful campus and a great location.

There's something intangible that just endears me to Princeton.. its just unexplainable.

Princeton spends more time and effort with their undergraduate body, while other schools such as harvard are much more graduate focused. It's right near NYC and Pennsylvania, so the location is great. The academics are obviously superb, and the campus is very nice. Its also got a great community.

lol windslicer, im sure mathwiz here appreciates ur comment.

i am just attracted to the availability of the professors, and the ability to do research with them

Lol, well I've always loved the fact that they really pay attention to their undergraduates
And after visiting the campus (along with all of the other big schools) theirs just felt right, a great setup w/ nice, green grassy places and beautiful buildings with an awesome historical background

But, of course, this all came after the intangible feeling :)

Yes it is definately intangible... Maybe someone put a spell on me ooooh....

lol all u "intangible feeling" guys, i think Brainwiz is asking for some thing "tangible" lol.....Anyways, they have said it all

Emphasis on undergrads, RESEARCH (top priority), availability of Professors(the renowned and non-renowned ones), top-notch education and ofcourse that intangible desire.....

As far as theo overall undergraduate education/experience I think that Princeton is in a catagory of its own...

which explains the high alumni giving rate

P'ton- 61% of alumni give back to university
Harvard- 44% give back

Definitely the Undergrad focus, and just all the positive feedback Alums have given about it. I haven't heard a single thing negative about Princeton, and that's hard for the other Ivies to tote.

Oh, and the fact that I love Gothic architecture with a passion helps a little, too.

Mydnight- I am OBSESSED with the Gothic architecture!!!! I can't stand brick-dominated campuses :( which is not a good thing because most schools seem to be mostly brick. Maybe it's superficial to be so obsessed with the type of buildings, but as a future architect buildings are important to me!

Hmm yeah but to answer the OP ... the undergrad focus of course... well basically what everyone else has been saying actually plus especially the INTANGIBLE thing!
