Principal/Guidance/School still hasn’t notified the NMF students at our school

Has your student’s school notified them directly?
I think there are 5-6 NMFs at my child’s School. We received the letter from National Merit congratulationing on Finalist status.
Anyone else?
If this was a high school football game the entire town would have been notified who scored ?

@Noble19 The letters to the school are mailed a week prior to the one straight to the candidates. The school has a certificate for your D.

@Noble19 No idea on that. Sorry.

My daughter graduated last year, and the school never notified her that she and 2 other kids we’re finalists. We weren’t sure until we got the letter from NMSC.

Nope. But the athletic recruits got a special assembly (voluntary but students could elect to miss class and go) and posts on the school’s social media for signing their letters of intent. #priorities

My son’s school - a private prep school - acknowledges Finalists at year end, when they give all other awards, including the Gold Presidential Service Award my son qualified for before year end.

That said, I had to push them to make an announcement when he was notified as a Semifinalist - very annoying when they had a history of celebrating groups of Semifinalists in years past, but weren’t seeming to be bothered this year when my son was the ONLY one who qualified in the school.

Life’s not fair.

Oh this just aggravates me. I’m so sorry. Do reach out though. You may want the certificate that was mailed to them. It’s a nice momento.

Same here, Principal hasn’t even bothered to acknowledge/email or present the certificate. School doesn’t do end of year awards so not sure what they are waiting for. I understand that 1/3 of the school ( ~150 ) is NM finalist and it may not be a big thing for the school staff it is still a great thing for the student to be recognized. ( Definitely a moral booster when dealing with some rejection letters)

DS’ high school is similarly cavalier about NM kids. The NMSF notification from them were late (past the due date for submitting the application for final consideration), the school supposedly had a little reception for the NMSFs during a school committee meeting and invited DS a few hours just before the meeting started. We still haven’t received the NMS certificate.

We’re always been disappointed with the school’s priorities but the lack of support for these kids is appalling, considering how hard these kids worked for this. DS can’t wait for senior year to be over.
