S has principal nomination from MOC. Have read related posts that principal nominees must be appointed if they are “qualified” but am curious about what that means. His info:

GPA: 3.56 (weighted)
Class Rank: 115/422 (6 honors classes, 5 AP classes)
ACT: 31 composite, 33 reading, 33 english, 29 math, 27 science
ECs: Varsity football, baseball, Boys State, clubs (no leadership positions), part-time job
CFA: so-so, pull-ups - 6, bb throw - 72 ft, shuttle - 8.8, situps - 95, push-ups - 40, run - 7:34
Medically Qualified
Also has Pres. nom

Can anyone tell us if these stats meet qualifications?

He’s recd appointment to USMA but really wants to go USAFA. Thanks!

Your kid looks pretty qualified to me. I don't see why not but I could be wrong. If I'm right and he passed DODMERB then he should be good to go. Congrats on the principal and USMA.

Passed the minimums in the SATs (600+ for both), so: academically qualified? Check

Passed the CFA (about the average in all the scores. A little low in push-ups, but they'll do for a passing score), so: physically qualified? Check

Passed the DODMERB exam. So, medically qualified? Check

With the Principal nom from your MOC (big congrats for that, they are NOT the norm), which is basically your MOC telling the AFA "If this kid meets your standards in the other areas, you WILL take him", I would say I have some tough news for you....

Tell your son he better start running, because come June he better be in shape, and you better get ready to say good-bye to him for the Summer. He's in!

Just how I read it. Talk to your ALO, who can confirm this....

I've been reading these posts for several months, and have really connected with others who have expressed their thoughts and feelings about this process.

Our ALO has been a super-hero. S didn't get interested in USAFA until very late...his junior year...and hadn't done many of the "right things" - scouts, leadership positions, etc. ALO got a sense of his passion for USAFA and was very direct, yet gentle, in addressing S's shortcomings. Give up the vacation and go to Boys State....take the 3rd, 4th, 5th SAT...load up on AP classes.

I served 22 years in the USMC and "get it".... I am SO proud of each and every one of these kids who are trying to gain admission to our service academies!
