Printing the Common App vs Online Submission

So my guidance counselor told me that our school makes us print out the guidance counselor recommendation form from the common app so that the counselors can fill them out by hand and send them along with our transcripts by mail instead of online.
So should I fill out the entire common app and supplement by hand and send it, or should I fill out the app online and just send the recommendations by mail?
Also, if I do choose to print it out and fill it out by mail, will I just have to print out my essay and attach it?
And, last question, if I send it by mail instead of submitting it online, will I be notified that the college gets it just to make sure that it did get to the college?

By the way, I'm only applying to one school that uses the common app.

Any help would be appreciated!

You can do your application and essay using the online version, and your guidance counselor can submit a paper version with your transcript. That’s how my S did his. Both teacher recommendations were submitted online.

For the GC, you can fill out your identifying info on the top section, then print it out. Also provide a postage-paid and addressed envelope to the GC.

Thanks for the help, college!
If I submit my application and essay online and the GC rec by mail, do you know if I will be notified when the college receives it? Because I would want to make sure that it did get to the college.

Yes, you should be able to see online the status. It will be updated when they receive an item.
