Private counselor recommendations to help with target college list

My kid’s school counselor is not able to spend much time with kids due to the high number of students assigned to her. So looking for a private counselor to come up with a target college list that includes both in-state (we live in Georgia) and out-of-state colleges. As this is only to help with identifying the colleges, I am thinking the counselor doesn’t need to be local. I have seen college vine mentioned in few posts. Any other good recommendations based on your experiences?

Thanks so much in advance for your time and replies!

Why not just ask out here? Give stats, possible majors, financial and geographic constraints, size preference, etc. There is a wealth of experience out here, and we are free.

You can get all the information you need and then some here on CC. No need to hire a private counselor.

Sending you a PM.

Thanks much for your replies. Will try these forums first : )

Piggybacking on what @intparent requested, let us know:

  • Location preferences/exclusions
  • Setting preference/exclusions (rural/small town, suburban/small city, or urban -- medium and large cities).
  • Desired enrollment (size) range
  • Majors under consideration
  • Any curriculum preference (regular, core, open)
  • Party/Greek scene preferences
  • Is a big sports scene important?
  • More intellectual or pre-professional atmosphere? Balanced?
  • Any other known preferences?
  • Also, what are you willing to spend and are you eligible for financial aid?

With your kid’s stats and preferences in hand, we can give some good recommendations – reach, match, and safety.
