Are they usually a double occupancy room rented to only one person (you still have the same size room as doubles, 2 beds, desks, etc) or is it a room thats half the size of the double?

It would seem sort of stupid/odd to pay more than double for half the room.

A single is typically smaller than a double. Once in awhile, you will find singles that are fairly large, but almost none are as big as doubles.

Living in small spaces is one of the joys of college (and young adulthood - my goodness there are some really expensive, really tiny apartments out there).

actually...the skills you learn from having a roommate are probably some of the most important things to learn in college! ...So having a single should really very rarely be considered a viable option simple because if you're the kind of person who most desires a single, you probably are the person who most needs to learn to live in close community and proximity with other people!!!

housing in oklahoma is cheap so if all else fails, just get an apartment. I realized single br apartment in OK = 1/4 of my studio in LA. :/ but yeah I don't know whicih school you are going to, but at my school singles ARE as big as doubles. (same room actually). I don't think if you are fresh though you are going to get priority. Good luck

The size of the single often depends on the school. And schools often have different sizes. My school has both "super singles" (ie rooms built for two students but occupied by one) and standard singles.
