So, I’ve applied to UT Austin as an international transfer for Spring 2018. This weekend, I got a response from the university saying I was admitted for their psychology program. I want to study in america by getting a student loan there, since I have an american co-signer and stuff (my family can’t afford it so that’s why I’m seeking a loan, I’ll pay for it as well).
The thing is I don’t know any good institutions which make this kind of financial operation for international students. Actually, even though I searched a lot for it online, I have minimum knowledge on how I do this kind of thing.
Could someone assist me with that? Maybe recommend some bank or institution that I can obtain a loan from. I would apreciate if someone could also explain me how this works and what I should know about it. Also, I need the loan prior to getting my F-1 or I-20, I’m almost sure.
It would mean A LOT if someone could help me, a Brazillian student who dreams on studying at the U.S.
Make sure you don’t make any plans with your current school to transfer. You are at Uni in Brazil doing psych?
As it stands, this whole escapade is waste of time. Don’t waste any more money on this.
You don’t have the money, so you won’t get a visa. You won’t get a job that allows you to pay back 100s of thousands of USD once you finish your undergrad and go back to Brazil, so your loan risk is unacceptable even with a magic co signer in the USA.
If you come to study in the US, what is the TOTAL debt that you will need to take on between now and when you graduate? Please include costs for books, air fare, and so on.
Also be aware that getting a degree does not allow you to stay in the US after graduation. The US government will almost certainly require you to go home as soon as your graduate. Also be aware that a bachelor’s degree in psychology typically does not qualify you for any job. If you do well it will qualify you to go to graduate school in a variety of fields that would lead to a job. However, graduate school is likely to add more debt.
A dream can turn into a nightmare very quickly. Frankly to me this plan looks far more likely to result in catastrophic debt than anything else.
A better plan might be to consider doing a semester abroad in the US.
What do you plan to do with a psychology degree? The US universities will educate you and then it is expected that you will return to your country after you get your education. You won’t be able to get a job after you get your BS. Immigration policies don’t allow it without an employer sponsorship. Employers can’t sponsor you because they have to indicate that there are NO US citizens available for a job. Not going to happen for someone with a psych degree.
You have to show immigration that you can pay for your two years of undergraduate study. Waiting until you get to the US to have the money loaned to you is not going to happen.
You need to have the cash in the local bank for an amount of time.
You are admitted to UT based on being a full pay international, what on earth was your plan for paying that rate when you applied? What did you understand about the process, the requirements, the visa criteria, the financials, etc? Did you do any homework?
