private tutors

how much money do they usually make per hour. I'm currently an EE student tutoring math,chem and physics at my schools learning center but i'm getting 7 dollars an hour. I would like to tutor for a while after i graduate from college,before i get into industry and start working as an engineer. Would i be able to pay my rent and feed myself with a stress-free(3 hours a day) private tutoring job?

W T F? double post.

I would say if you are competent enough in the subjects you are teaching and get some killer advertising, you should easily make 3-5 times what you are making now at the learning center

i have a french tutor who's with this tutoring service and we pay them $40 a lesson. It usually lasts for an hour or so.

I'm guessing she earns about $20/hr. $7 is too low imo, people working at McDonalds earn more than that!

oh you are getting ripped off... ususally private tutors get 15-30.

$7.00 is too low. Oh my goodness, you earn that at like Target.

Tutoring is all about your level of skill.

If you are tutoring things you have down pat, you charge according to level. Like, if you are tutoring (for example) Elementary Spanish I, you charge $15.00 for a good hour of tutoring.
If you are tutoring Advanced Spanish Grammar, you charge a good $25.00 an hour.

Seven bucks an hour is way too low. That is what people make where I live who work for the School Board tutoring with At Risk Youth. College level tutoring or AP or IB level tutoring should start at $15.00 an hour.

They earn MORE than 7 dollars at target..LMAO...I think it's like 8 sumtin.

Guys-remember, i'm not a 'private' tutor.So i dont 'charge' the students what i want to charge. It's kind of like any job you would apply for. There's a supervisor who is basically the 'employer.' She sits right in front of the center and handles our paychecks, sets up tutoring appointments, and holds weekly tutor-training meetings.

The tutors are the 'employees'.I'm one of many tutors who work at the learning center. I work three hours a day, (i usually only tutor for about an hour though). So i can do whatever i want with the remaining time(homework,go to bathroom,sit outside the learning center)- whatever i do i have to be close to the learning center just in case someone does a walk-in and wants help with a course. So i get 21 dollars a day regardless of how many of those 3 hours i actually spend tutoring.It's the easiest,least excruciating job you could find(you just sit down and talk, and it's even easier when the person you're tutoring is your friend- you can just chat with them about 'stuff') AND it' a block away from my dorm. So i actually feel kind of lucky.

Do you guys know more about tutoring services? How and where do i apply to them?
