I am curious when you got your cellphones back? How often you get to go see your sponsor families? What you can have in your rooms (i.e. pictures, t.v., radios/stereo, IPOD etc.)

We get them back Parent's day Weekend. After that, we can have them on weekends till prog, then if you are not on probabtion you can have them all the time (only weekends if on probation). You can see your sponsor family every weekend (if no probation). Sunday passes are unlimited if you go to their house. I do that a lot.

You can have 1 personal item as a 4 dig, then it goes up by class (I think firsties have 9 personal items(?)).

IPOD, music, and movies AFTER recognition in March. Coffee maker as a 3 dig, radio/stereo as a 2 dig, and a TV only as a Firstie. Also, fridge as a 2 degree (or as a 3 dig if the Exec officer approves).

Can you have a digital picture frame that stores multiple pictures?

you sure can. I considered doing that myself. Just didn't get around to it. Remember, you can't have that in BCT.

What is the one personal item you're allowed 4 degree year? Also, are there phones you can use before you can use your cell phone to coordinate where to meet on parents weekend, etc?

your can coordinate by e-mail. You could potentially borrow a phone...

personal item could be a picture frame, stuffed animal, pretty much anything small.

One interesting note: son did very well on knowledge tests and was actually given unlimited music and movie privileges about a month ago. It was a BIG deal and a great incentive. He will keep them as long as he continues to do well on knowledge through recognition (when I believe everyone gets those privileges). This kind of thing varies with squadron.

varies very much with squadron and training officer. Squad 8 is/was at ease for a long time, 11 has music and movies, etc. My squad is well known for not giving those.... and for all my fellow 4 digs on the board, if you remember who our 1st BCT Group stan/eval officer was (hint, last name starts with a G) he is my next semester training officer....ya, feel the pain.

Ouch. He ripped me a new one in the bathroom. Sounds like its gonna be fun....

My squad is kinda tough still. UOD till TAPS, no music or movies, at attention everywhere, rooms in SAMI, facing movements; only till Recognition though.

"You can have 1 personal item as a 4 dig, then it goes up by class"

Not 100% on this, but I'm pretty sure the rule is only about what you can display on your desks..and I thought it was 2 for 4 digs...(haha tool I know)

Getting music/movies is really not the norm though, so it really does vary by squad and training staff.

eh, something like that, not many! Not toolish, see you would have one more item on your desk before I figured it out if you were a 4 dig. Then of course you're lucky enough to not be.

Ya you can have infinite pictures etc that fit on the desk backboard (all items must have a pin in each corner).

Are you allowed to wear civilian clothes if you go to visit your sponser family? Can you keep your civvies at their house?

no and no comment. lol

They might come and get you one day when you put on a forbidden set of civvies for the Sunday game. Big brother is watching. ;)

I guess this Christmas break has been the best privlege of all. Not all are able to come home (if on Ac Pro? or other reasons). At one point, at a family gathering, I noticed son staring intently -- very quiet. I asked him about it and he said he was "taking in all the freedom. Observing everything" The back and forth is a real culture shock for 4dig's. Anyone else on the board notice that?

My son got home absolutely as soon as he could and will go back as late as possible, but he spends all his time at home talking about the academy.

"(if on Ac Pro? or other reasons). "

The only reason I know of for people not to be allowed to come home at all for break is a UCMJ restriction. All the probations get the same leave as anyone else. If you had Class C or D Cadet Punishments, meaning a lot of confinements, you'd you only get like a week or so of leave and be spending the rest of the time at the Academy sitting confinements which sucks majorly...

Yeah. Don't drink when you're not supposed to and all that stuff. Really. It's not a good idea.

Christmas break is awesome...and even though we have to go back to the hardest part of the year...it's almost done! Only a couple months left and we'll be (semi) normal people again...that's what keeps me going.
