Problemmm

I just found out that I missed the Hamilton College’s optional essay. I was extremely sick during that time that I could not check whether I had submitted everything or not but I also liked Hamilton a lot so I applied to it. Is it possible that the Likelive video makes up for that? Because in that way i will be still explaining my interest for Hamilton right?

Bump

I don’t think Hamilton has an “optional essay.” The LikeLive video is a substitute for an interview; it won’t replace any of the written application materials.

As implied above, the Hamilton-specific “short-answer essay” is required.

I know that the “optional” thing isn’t really optional but the purpose of the essay is the same: expressing your interest for Hamilton. Plus 250 words aren’t enough for me to fulfill that purpose. I can do that better in a video. Should I explain this in the video so they know that the reason for not submitting the essay is not laziness?

“the purpose of the essay is . . . expressing your interest [in] Hamilton . . . 250 words are aren’t enough for me to fulfill that purpose.”

That might have been a good theme for the required (not optional in any way) essay.

You could call the admissions office, explain your situation, and ask for clarification.

I think you face two different issues:
Your failure to meet the deadline for a complete application, and your inability to answer the essay question as requested.

I agree with Middkid86. It sounds like an excuse, and a bad one at that. I’d just call them, explain the mistake, and ask if they’ll take it. Don’t even say you were sick. Say something like you thought it went through but now realize it didn’t.

No, tell the truth and say you were very sick.

I agree that the OP should tell the truth. But in the initial post s/he states that s/he was extremely sick but in post #4 states that “250 words aren’t enough to fulfill that purpose.” So that seems to indicate an inconsistency in the OP’s dedication to the application, which was expressed even in this thread, and complicates what the truth even is.

It honestly sounds like a bs excuse that you were sick. Unless you had ebola and were quarantined, im sure you could have checked…

That’s what I think. I don’t think you were extremely sick. If you were in the hospital, then yes, tell them you were sick. It doesn’t take a lot of effort to press send.
