I'm a current college student and I struggle with procrastination. I have ADHD so I'm easily distracted among other issues... I just have a problem with getting started on tasks within a reasonable amount of time. Sometimes I just can't make myself leave my apartment even though I know I need/want to get things done, some of which I'd actually enjoy doing. Sometimes when I tell myself to just get up and do something, anything, it will still take an unbelievable amount of time. I struggle with anxiety too so I'm sure that's part of it. I actually think it might be more of an anxiety/distraction issue than a motivation issue. Which is frustrating. My counselor told me to attempt just 15 minutes of a task and then decide after completion of those 15 minutes whether or not I should continue. However, I mainly struggle with tasks that require multiple unrelated steps before I can actually start working, like locating items and setting up a workspace, or putting on makeup/packing a backpack and leaving my apartment. Does anyone have any other tips for just getting started on things?

Hey there. I have the same issue. I’m online in High School but I thought I might suggest some things. It doesn’t always work but sometimes it can help. Find something you would rather be doing than what you actually need to do and repeat to yourself “If I do 15 minutes of [need to do] then I get to do 15 minutes of [want to do]” Just keep repeating it to yourself. I kind of think of it like you’re bribing yourself to get stuff done haha. You might have already tried that but if not, I’d suggest it~

Setting up a schedule for yourself is a great first step.
