Allowed or generally a don't?

Depends on the professor, but it’s usually not a big deal.

Depends on the profanity. I’ve used things like “****ed off” which, although not really profane, isn’t necessarily the kind of phrase you’d use when talking to someone like a teacher. Like nne said, it depends on the professor.

I have yet to hear anything like “" or "” (rhyme with split and duck, respectively).

I’ve had professors saying or yelling profanity. Haha, my American Government professor, teaching about what is and is not protected as free speech, to my friend in the front row: “I’m going to sever your mother***ing head off!” He yelled it very loudly and abruptly, shocking my friend. It was great. Then there was my philosophy professor who was worried about people recording his lectures, “In case I say something like *curse word.”

In an anthro class, I got away with “sand ■■■■■■■ without any sort of reproach. It was used in a proper context though; I wasn’t just ranting racial epithets before a captive audience.

Ahhh cannot edit, based on previous responses I thought CC censored profanity. What with all the asterisks and everything.

you can say ■■■■■■ on here?

Evidently.

Yeah, what the hell college confidential mods? I can’t say d-bag but you allow the use of the n-word?

Can I say weiner? Bollocks? Titmouse?

I can! Can I say ■■■■■ willow? ****ant? Mulva?

breast vagina **** jackass titties

My physics professor dropped the F-bomb on a few occasions…o glorious days.

Depends on the school and professor. I attended a secular insitution briefly and professors were swearing left and right. At my school, now(its christian), theres a fine for swearing.

What the heck is proper context for s*** n*****??

When people are referring to other people who use the term to describe people of Arabian descent. That is a case.

This morning during English my professor said sh** and plenty of variations of it throughout the 80 minute class. Just as in slang too. I guess if you don’t make a big deal about it, it’s no big deal. …Just don’t swear like you’re still in junior high and think you’re BA cause you know all these “naughty” words you’d get whipped for at home.

What the hell? You can say ■■■■■■■■ on here? Seriously? Smh mods…

OMG WHAT ADULTS ARE SWEARING IN FRONT OF OTHER ADULTS? OMG IM TELLING MOMMY THE BIG SCARY TEACHER MAN SAID A NAUGHTY WORD

i like it when teachers swear. it makes the class less stressed. swearing is a part of the young adult vernacular, and im always worried a swear will slip out and the teacher will go nuts. a teacher that also swears makes it easier.

also i like the reaction from everyone else when they hear a teacher swear for the first time. its like a mixture of giggles, gasps, shock, and lolz

It depends. You can kind of tell within the first few days of class if the professor will mind or not.
Either way there is nothing they can do if you do swear, unless you swear at them then they may have an issue with that…but yeah they usually don’t care.
Most professors swear during lectures themselves.
