Professional Auditions

thumper: Congratulations!

Viola dad,
I want to add my congrats as well.

I know your whole family must be bursting with joy and pride. You may think of it as a big baby step along the way, but it was his first and it is wonderful.

It is also wonderful to see how everyone is rooting for your son. I'm so pleased to be a part of a group that is so thoughtful and supportive. Violadad has contributed so much to all of us, I'm glad we all can share in his dreams.

team_mom- And thank you as well.

This board is a wonderful resource and I'm more than happy to shed some light when I can. I'm just following the lead set by those already here when I stumbled in.

Okay - just finished teaching piano lessons today, and am supposed to be somewhere, but I just had to take a minute and post. S called while I was teaching. He has been named runner-up for a regional (southern) orchestra! Will get the job if the winner turns it down. And in the meantime, they'd like him to sub for them - travel expenses included! Gave him some dates already. Yippee!

Whoopee! Congrats, binxson!

Fantastic. Now it's wait and see what the winner decides. Hope he gets the outcome he wants.

What fabulous news. I got all exited reading your post. I can only imagine how you must feel.

Awesome news binx. Congrats!

WONDERFUL. Thanks for the happy news.

Binx, that is great news! Cheers and congrats and hugs and everything else!

Fantastic! Congratulations all around.

Thanks, everybody. I really appreciate the good wishes.

The job was for just one year, and at the time he applied, he thought it was for next year. It was a taped audition, and only after he sent it did he realize it was for the current season. So runner up is actually the best possible answer. He gets the encouragement, and the sub jobs, but isn't put in the position of balancing a "real" job and school, or deciding between them. It's not the end of the tunnel, but we see a glimmer of light. Best case, this will give him a confidence boost to get him through the next couple auditions.

Excellent. Hopefully the first career success of many to come.

Oh Binx...that is wonderful news!!!

Marvelous news violadad and binx! Good grief.....are we living the dream vicariously through your children or what???!!!!!

Congrats to Binx and son! I love good news!

More happy news.
DD is a college freshman, but played her first professional audition for a sub spot in the symphony orchestra which is down the street from her university. They called her yesterday, and she is in. Whether or not she is ever called to play remains to be seen. of course.

Perhaps the best part of the process was the feedback she got from the Principal player who was a member of the screened jury and the person who called with the happy news. While DD thought she played quite well, she was humbled to hear his comments about some intonation issues. She agreed that he was correct and says she is committed to increasing her attention to this vital detail of her playing.

Congrats to your d. The sub spot can be nice plus, particularly if she does get called.

Congratulations to all on the great news! Please continue to keep us all posted.

Excellent. That orchestra experience matters so much - both practically and on resumes! Orchestras like to see experience. Congratulations.
