Professional Writing major looking for a complimentary minor

I am a Sophomore with a current major selection of Professional Writing. My dream career with this degree would be to become an book editor, whether for fiction or non-fiction or even textbooks. I have done an extensive search on google to find the prospects of achieving this, but I’ve come up pretty short in terms of what to minor in and what courses to take. I’ve thought to minor in Linguistics or Creative Writing, but my school does not allow English majors to also minor in English concentrations. I’m currently minoring in law, but I’m not sure if that’s a good idea or not. I’m also open to suggestions of other careers I could get with a Professional Writing degree. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Some minors I’m considering are:
-Marketing
-Advertising
-Business
-Law
-Public Relations
-Journalism

First, be sure you understand what “professional writing” means. Look at the job opportunities pages.

Editors I’ve known were either English majors or subject specialists (eg, the environmental expert with a knack for writing/editing. Or the art historian qualified to evaluate books/articles on art topics.) Or lucky to work their way up from literally checking for typos 40 hours/week.

Publishing has changed so much with the web. Be sure you’re targeting marketable skills.
