I asked one of my professors to write a letter of recommendation for my transfer application, and she agreed to do so, but suggested that I write a “draft letter of recommendation.” I checked several websites, and it seems that this is a common occurrence for many students that are looking to go into graduate school, but I didn’t find any examples of this happening for transfers. She said that she had a lot of letters to write (because she is mainly a graduate professor), so this would save time for her. I’m very concerned that the colleges I am applying to will easily see through my letter of recommendation, and will thus not accept me into their university, because the letter of recommendation is just a sham. I understand that professors edit the letter, and that’s why it’s only a “draft,” but I still feel that they will be able to see through this. I’m in a pickle because she is the only professor that I actually have any sort of connection with. Any suggestions?
It happens when the professor does not know you well enough. The university won’t see through your drafted letter as long as you are honest about what you write in the letter, and the professor won’t submit a letter that is not true.
