Professor That's Really Irking Me

In my last semester of school for good, just getting really annoyed by this class. There is only five weeks to go, my group and I go in every class meeting to have a meeting with this professor about the work. We do it every time but it’s always not refined the right way according to the professor and we’re just not getting it apparently. Just extremely frustrating to be told you’re not putting in the work when we spend almost 6-8 hours working on what we need to do every week but if it’s not the way the professor likes it, it’s wrong. I just can’t wait until it’s over, I thought you were supposed to come to college to learn how to do things for yourself, not just be fed how to do it the professor’s way.

That is frustrating. When I took my freshman composition class last semester, my prof would always tell us to be creative and try new things. Well, I took her advice, and I got points taken off for trying something different.

The best that you can do is grin and bear it. It’ll be over soon.

Consider it training for when you end up with a difficult boss in the future

I think it depends on the material.

If you’re interpreting Russian literature, then I agree that you should be learning to develop your own strategies and approaches.

If you’re taking out an appendix, or filling out my tax return, then I’m kind of hoping you’ll do it his way.

@bjkmom‌ it’s marketing strategies so it’s pretty much all subjective.

If this is the first professor that has really annoyed you, and you’re ready to graduate, congrats! That might be some kind of record!

@Barfly I’ve had some that have been difficult lol but none that have just absolutely annoyed me like this. It’s the most difficult class for my major but everything you do in there is just not good enough and it’s the same way for the other groups in the class is what I’ve heard.

That stinks. At least you’re in good company, though, if the other groups are having trouble with the prof. Just hang in there! It really is good practice - you’ll surely have future bosses, as @stradmom suggests, who are equally annoying. And you can learn how NOT to be from this prof!

Lots of professors out there are jerks. They’re good researchers but bad teachers/humans. They just ride out that tenure.

Start to go see your prof during office hours as well as during class. Be persistent so you will figure out what they want. I know your instinct is to stay away, but getting more input or asking how to approach the issue will be better.

It’s been ok the last 2 meetings, I honestly just think that the professor is extremely moody. My group has tried to bet on the professors mood the last 3 meetings to see which one of us is right, lol.
