Professor told me "Don't be a stranger..."

Isn’t that sweet? I had sent him an email asking some questions about the course material, and he responded at length. At the end he told he that he loved my emails, and not to be a stranger now that the semester was over.

To be honest, I’m crushing on this professor, and am reading too much into anything I can. My email was quite cold, and it surprised me how warm and sweet his response was.

Is it odd for a professor to tell his student,

Don’t be a stranger now that the semester is over pretty please!

…?

@CriedEmerson There’s nothing wrong with a professor saying that. It basically means that he doesn’t want you to forget him just because the class ended. Whenever you finish a class, that doesn’t mean that you have to lose a connection between him or any of the students. Making the time to write emails to him made him think that you cared about his class and your grade.

Overall, the whole point of college is to work hard and make new friends. You should never “fake” a friendship just because you met someone in class. It happened to me last year:

I decided to sit down next to a random girl on the first day of classes. After some time, we eventually became “classroom friends”. We always sat next to each other in class, but she had a boyfriend, and I wasn’t trying to pursue anything because I’ll always be respectful in that situation. We then lost touch for some unknown reason. It always sucks that people come and go throughout your life, but the ones who stay are the most important to you.
