Professors

I was wondering if the professors really do teach the classes, or if it was mainly graduate students? I heard from someone that usually the professors focus on research and not teaching.

Thanks,
Ashley

Professors really do teach the classes. Sometimes the classes are quite large, so there are weekly discussion sections typically overseen by graduate students, but the course content and lectures are by the professors. But sometimes the classes are small seminars where the professor does everything. In the experience of my D, a history major, the professors are totally accessible and generous with their time and wisdom.

I'm a freshman right now at Yale. Out of my four classes, three of them are seminar-type classes, and the other is a lecture class. Three of my classes are taught by the professor, and the other one is on a rotation of professors and lectors. My English and freshman seminar classes are taught entirely by the professor. My math class, which is the lecture class, is taught by the professor; we also have a discussion section with a TA, which is mainly for homework questions. In my Chinese class, the teachers rotate among sections, so every day we have a different person teaching. I don't believe that's usual for the other languages though.

hey stele32, i am also a freshman and i am also in Chinese...
which section are you in???

I'm in section 8. I used to be in section 4 until they did that whole reorganization thing. How about you?

i'm in 10. i used to be in 7 until the reorganization thing...

this characters are killing me...not as much as the tones though:)
