When the Profile asks for the amount of taxes paid, they are referring to federal taxes because state taxes are supposed to already be computed into their formula. My husband pays taxes to NY and NJ because he works in NY, lives in NJ. How do we account for the extra state and city taxes?

Send a letter to the schools, I do this every year!
The FAO may or may not make an adjustment, it is up to them!

We live in one state & H works in another, too, so our “state and local taxes” always exceed what the FAFSA or CSS PROFILE will calculate.

Thank you SLUMOM. Is there a place to indicate the taxes owed now that you completed your return, versus those withheld?

PROFILE does not let you make corrections online like the FAFSA! P.I.T.A., I know!

Take your copy of the PROFILE you submitted online, write in your corrections from your completed tax returns. Mail this Corrected PROFILE Copy to all the Financial Aid offices, along with your tax returns (if school wants your tax returns) & your letter which explains any special circumstances (i.e. the state & local taxes, high out-of-pocket medical expenses, or loss of income etc.)

I always send everything certified mail to the Financial Aid Offices, with return receipt requested (the green postcard).
