Profile of students not accepted to colleges

While it’s easy to find published profiles of students who are accepted to colleges, is there any way to determine the profile of the averge student who is rejected by a particular college? I’m wondering what the stats look like for someone in the top-50% (or top 25%) of those who were rejected. In other words, based soley on measurable attributes (GPA, test scores, maybe AP exams), how different are the best of the kids who are rejected compared to those who get accepted?

I understand this is very general in nature. Just curious.

Not that I ever heard of. Keep in mind there are many non-quantifiable pieces of an application that can lead to a rejection (ex. LOR, essay etc.)

And that’s sort of my point. I’m guessing if you looked at the top 20% of kids rejected by a college, they would have better stats (again, I know it’s just stats and there are many, many other factors) than the bottom 20% of kids accepted, even if you throw out athletes and other kids with hooks.

Not that this is an important topic …

There are websites like that.

In my experience with admissions interviewing, the stats for rejected students are strikingly similar to those of the accepted students. It’s the “extras” and the hooks the separate the two groups. And what is an “extra” varies greatly.

For San Jose State University, cutoff eligibility indices (frosh) or college GPAs (transfer) are published.
