projects abroad

Hello
I am a international student taking a gap year and I am planning to take a internship in the projects-abroad organization. I really like the program but was wondering if this organization is well known. I am going to apply for universities next year and I am just worried whether the organization is trust worthy.

They charge exuberant prices to ''volunteer"

hotspurs: I’ve read from your other posts that you’ve been rejected to some selective US colleges. I would posit that those decisions were not based on your lack of voluntarism – how were your academics? The general competitive nature of the international pool is insane.

You’ve also said your parents would support you but there is difficulty. I don’t see how spending US$250K for your undergraduate education plus the costs of this Projects-Abroad program is best for you in the long run. Why are you travelling to Africa? What is your home country? Are there no worthy projects there? If so, then your Africa trip will look like naked resume padding, to be frank.

Why do you think this one feature will give you more success this year than last?

I think you overestimate the value of a US degree from the schools you’ve targeted previously…

Hi hotspurs: American colleges will appreciate it MUCH more if you volunteer in your own community, showing care and concern for those locally. I am sure there are nonprofit organizations that would be delighted to have an intern with them yearlong. Making a difference locally is also more meaningful in the long-run since you can explain how you chose one particular charity or organization.
