My friend asked me to prom today. He and I are just good friends and we clarified that I was going to prom with him as a friend.

The only problem is, I am interested in this other boy, who basically feels the same way I do.

This is absolutely great timing (sarcasm) and I don't want this boy to back off misunderstanding the situation. Should I just keep it on the DL for now?

Did you say yes already? If you did, back out politely if you’re sure the other guy’s gonna ask you as well.

Handle it as such.

“Hey, do you want to go to prom with me?”

“Daaaamn. Yes, but my friend was really depressed about no one wanting to go with him, so I agreed to go as a friend. I don’t want him to get depressed again. I’m not a big fan of prom, though, and I’d really rather just go on a real date with you. How about Saturday?”

I guess I should add that the guy who asked me to prom is a senior, but they boy I like and myself are younger

Just say you guys are going as friends. And then offer to hang out with the guy you like on a separate occasion.
