Pros and cons about Cal and UCLA

I’m curious to know what are the pros and cons about these schools. Can anyone help me?

Have you visited both? Very different atmospheres. What's your major? Different offerings and strengths in academics, too. Both are great if you're looking for a gigantic public university w/ a strong reputation (especially in the West).

I have visited Cal before, but not UCLA. I really liked the atmosphere over at Cal. Right now I'm a senior in high school, but I'm gonna go to a community college then transfer in. I'm thinking about majoring in Engineering.

Try to visit UCLA -- you may find one of the two just feels better to you. At comm'ty college, talk to pre-engineering instructors re: the best fit for you and the best curriculum for the engineering specialty you want to pursue (Cal gets higher rankings for environmental and electrical engineering, UCLA's a little higher in aeronautical). Good luck!

im considering aeronautical engineering, since im fascinated with aircraft, so I'm considering UCLA. right now I can't visit UCLA because i got a lot of school work right now, but I'll try and take a tour during the summer time.

thx for the advice!

NorthernCalMother, does Cal even have aeronautical engineering, or something essentially equivalent?

If I can be of some help, I think Cal's ME program has some aeronautics in the major.

Oh, got it. Thanks. I guess I thought of the general fields described (ME, EE) as being more specific than they are.

would any of you guys go to a university closer or farther away from home?

i guess this is a pro for some and a con for others, but they have a ton o' asians.

The above comment disgusts me.

the above comment disgusts me

no racial bashing

and why is that?

all i said that cal and ucla have a ton o' asians. and they do. i didn't realize wrathletik was ashamed of that.

Yeah, that's what I said alright. You hit it right on the nose there buddy...

it's just a fact. there are lots of asians at these schools.

I'm a URM and have lots of Asian friends. And everyone recognizes that there are lots of Asians at these schools. There are lots of Asians in California, so why wouldn't there be?

There are a lot of asians at most schools, considering the total amount they make up within the population. The same is true for Jews. At least each group is not discriminated against as they used to be in college admissions.

I don't agree with the connotation that a large number of one race or another is a pro or a con.
