Hi,
I am from Taiwan and get into the faculty of art and commerce. However, I really don't know whether McGill is the right school for me.
As an international student ( non Canadian or US citizen), I am afraid that the opportunities, like internships, are limited because of my citizenship. Also, I have been studying in local schools, which Chinese is the only language we use. Though my English is quite good and I speak French as well, I am still worried that language and the cultural differences will become a problem.
Moreover, I have never experienced a snowy winter. The coldest winter in Taiwan is about 10 degree Celsius.
Please tell me anything about the city and the university. I really appreciate that.

P.s. I want to major in psychology and economics. Anything related to the courses is also very helpful.

Thanks!

Hello,

I’m from India and have also been accepted into the faculty of arts! Like you, I’ve got no experience of studying abroad and my idea of winter is 15 degrees Celsius. I don’t think opportunities are limited at Montreal especially if you speak french. A lot of programs offer internships to 2nd year and 3rd year students as part of the program (some even give you credits fro the internships).

I’ve talked to McGill students in their webinars and they all recommend you introduce yourself and regularly talk to your professors regarding your interests and your keenness to help. A lot of professors have research programs and projects running so you are highly likely to find work in one of those.

Also, another thing to note is that new Canadian visa rules allow students to work FULL-TIME during the summer without a work-visa.

I’ve heard Montreal is quite cosmopolitan and student friendly city so I dont think you will face any problems because of your nationality. Anyway the good thing is about being Chinese or Indian is you will almost always find someone from your country wherever you go.

Dont worry mate! Everyone (me included) is probably just as nervous as you are!

Hey,
Thanks for the reply.
Yeah, I guess I am really nervous.

Haha, you are right. There are a lot of Chinese and Indian all over the world.
