Pros and cons of going to law school and being a lawyer

I beleive that this topic may answer many questions that individuals have who are intrested in going into this field. Please list some examples for both here.

I didn't want to make another topic so i'll this question here, how can a lawyer become a judge and on average how many years does it take to become one

One becomes a judge either by election or by appointment. If you're gonna run for election its common to hold public office first such as being a DA. If you're going by appointment the same applies but if you're going for a higher position you better have (or make) damned good connections, court your political party's base, and have good grades from Harvard/Stanford/Yale/Columbia/Uchicago or even better grades from another top 14 school.

at least in new jersey, to become a judge you need an appointment. it doesn't really matter what your grades were or what law school you went to, as most judges have practiced for a significantly long time. You really need to know someone to become a judge - or else your application cannot get pushed through the ranks. its one of the most politically guided professions there is.
