Pros and Cons of L&C, Willamette?

Hi!

I'm currently a junior who's leaning towards an East Asian Studies major and looking at schools in Oregon at the moment.

If you have any pros and/or cons about either L&C or Willamette, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate your opinions!

Thank you.

EDIT: I would prefer answers from those who have attended or are currently attending L&C or Willlamette.

L&C - in Portland (awesome). Excellent study abroad program with sister colleges in various countries. DD2 will be studying abroad (Japan) next year and is able to take her scholarship with her.

@Erin’s Dad: Thank you! Also, if you (or even someone else) wouldn’t mind clearing up some rumors I’ve heard about L&C. Is it true that campus safety officers are rather intrusive and sometimes check students unnecessarily? And, how is the campus living? I’ve heard multiple complaints about it, though for general reasons.

just spent an entire day on campus for a tour with my kid. I really did like the campus. It felt very comfortable to me. We had never been on a campus with a small student body, 1800 or so. Went shopping downtown. lots of stores to fit your needs. Food choices in the dining hall was very wide and diverse. Bistro coffee shop in the student union area was very relaxing and inviting. We were there to check out the theater and music departments. The college is at the top of our list of colleges.

My D just chose Willamette over L&C (and others) for next year. She instinctively liked Willamette. I would say the two schools feel very different (despite their many similarities in a spreadsheet). L&C is technically in a big city, but feels woodsy and isolated. Nothing is in walking distance. Willamette feels less Northwesty and more eastern, with old brick buildings and a large flat campus. Salem is a less interesting city than Portland, but Willamette is right in the thick of things.

Both schools have great study abroad opportunities. Willamette has a branch of Tokyo International University right on campus, with 100 students from the Japanese school living right among the Willamette kids as roommates every year.

L&C felt a bit more dreadlocky and politically active (liberal). D is very liberal and politically active, and yet she was drawn to Willamette.
