Pros and Cons of Oxford

^ On a serious note, I really doubt that that’s the case. where did you get that information from?

i honestly don’t understand why everyone is putting oxford down, its apart of emory regardless of the lower test scores. Just because it is on a different campus does not mean anything, its only there because that is where emory university used to be and instead of tearing it down, due to a change in location, they wanted to keep it. Therefore Oxford College was born and put there. It is the same as if the business school was put there or any other college in Emory. I mean seriously i don’t get why oxford bothers people so much, there are those who chose to go to emory and those who wanted to go to oxford. As long as you are happy with where you are than ok than, why complain. Oxford is a brillant idea and more colleges should have something like it. The kids there are no less than those at emory, we are just as smart, so stop trying to put us down. Some of us are happy with our decisions, so be happy with yours. It is not a back door no matter what anyone says. It is in a nice community and not as dead as everyone thinks it is. The campus is beautiful, and there is a lot to do. So seriously don’t down the school especially if you never saw it.

^ Amen. You couldn’t have said it any better :)

lol thank you…so your going to oxford this fall too?

Yeah XD I’m pretty pumped if you ask me lol

lol so am i, what is your name? are you on the facebook group?

Someone sounds bitter. If you look at Oxford admit stats, they are lower than Emory College’s, but they are still much higher than the average school’s. It’s also not like the students who get into Oxford are of such low caliber that they can only hope to get into their no-name public schools. For example, I was accepted to Fordham University and several other great schools.

I was accepted to Georgia Tech’s Honor Program, and waitlisted at several great colleges (i.e. WUSTL, Barnard, Smith, etc)

Do I consider myself an indolent twit? No.

I proudly sport the Oxford/Emory insignia and will join Oxford this fall.

It’s Missoma on faceook bajangurl. Or you on the facebook group?
^Agree with Stephen even though I got denied at Fordham :frowning: but got accepted into UGA which is a great public school and kinda hard to get into and Agnes Scott a reputable women’s school (top seven women’s college as of 2008: got that from about.com) But whatever :P

Oh and I just remembered something else, the last 2 valedictorians of the business school have been Oxford alum

missoma, my name is domonique davis on the facebook group…ive seen you on there lol…and they say the kids from oxford end up doing really well in emory, so we should be proud

To everyone who is saying that Oxford is nothing more than a glorified backdoor, I have to say that there ARE people who could have made it to Emory, but chose Oxford for one of many reasons.

Case in point: me.

I had the grades, ranks, EC, and scores to make it to Emory, but I chose Oxford for several reasons, the main one being that I suffer from Asperger’s Syndrome (a form of autism). The smaller size is going to help me adjust to life on a larger campus (Emory) while still offering me a world-class education.

I understand that not everybody has a reason such as mine to attend, but what I am trying to say is: please don’t say that every Oxford student is just trying to cheat the system and sneak into Emory. It just isn’t true.

I agree. Good and honest post. Don’t be so mean about who gets in where. Be grateful for what you do have.

@StevenSeagal i’m also hoping to go through oxford to get into goizueta…i completely agree with stefanhelton…even if i am accepted at emory…i would still go through oxford first…it’s the kind of community that i long for :)

don’t really know where the negative energy towards Oxford is coming from, because I know a ton of people who went there and absolutely loved it! not to mention they’ve succeeded at Emory right after!

oxford college is rolling admission after 1/15 right? think its too late to apply?
