Pros and Cons of Undergraduate Spring Internships

I am a freshman at Duke, and I was recently offered a spring internship at an online news publication in Washington, D.C. The administrators would prefer that I work in D.C.

Is this practical to do as a college freshman? Any significant advantages/disadvantages?

Thanks!

My general advice: Always take an internship.

If you think it will affect grades and/or other activities then you could wait until Sophomore year to start Internships. I didn’t start Internships until Junior year and now have 2 and should be fine when I graduate.

taking an internship will make the 2nd one easier to get.

I always intern during the year since I go to school in New York and have the entire city at my disposal. Interning during the school year is a great way to get ahead and get you access to top internships over the summer when the competition is tough.
