Pros and Cons of WashU

Just wanted to know everyone’s opinion on WashU?

What do you like? What don’t you?
What type of person fits best? What are some similar schools? What are their best programs?

Since no one responded…I did not go nor have a child go. One applied.

What appealed to him was a gorgeous smaller campus with a living area that was in one place and off to the side. So all the dorms etc are in one area. There was a nice path to get to the quad area. The rooms are nice with tempurpedic beds. He doesn’t go so that’s just astethics.

You should read the student reviews on niche. Just Google wustl + niche. Go back a few pages so you get pre covid reviews.

What one wouldn’t like…weather for sure.

You should pursue your passions, not want to pursue a best major. If you want to know similar schools and I’ll call that mis size in a outlying area near the town, the elites are going to be Rice, Emory, Vandy, Duke. You might assume Rochester, Wake, Tufts, Case Western W&M,in some ways although not close to society. Going down some notches you might see an American, Lehigh, even further down a Hofstra, Elon (like w and M not in society)

Every school has its pluses and minuses. You have to find the right one for you.

Parent of a student in Arts and Sciences.
Excellent small first year seminars. Very friendly, approachable and accessible faculty. Great living conditions. Lots of student support through the writing center, etc.
While the pre-med and sciences get attention, WUSTL also has superb social sciences and humanities.
Good theater program, outstanding Art and Architecture programs. Lots of students participate in improv and a capella groups.
Friendly place, but NOT a “rah rah” school. If you want a place where everyone is going to the football game on Saturday, go to Michigan or Notre Dame.

My son just got accepted to Olin Business School. We did a lot of research on undergrad business schools and Olin is high ranking and very respected.
