Good point. I have read many posts discouraging the notion of majoring in sports mgmt as it is very narrow and jobs are not plentiful - so I like when I see more of an expanded program such as sport and event mgmt or sport and entertainment mgmt - allows for more possibilities.

My D graduated in 2010 and was also a Sports and Entertainment Management major and is now getting ready to start her second year of Law school. One professor in the department is a noted sports agent with many BIG time professional clients. He drives in from Charlotte to teach his classes. He and another professor in the dept are both lawyers as well and both wrote LORs for my D’s Law school applications. I think they carried added weight in that being Lawyers they knew what it took to be successful in Law school.

USC’s program is about the business of sports…and it has a strong business foundation. If I recall correctly, there are more required courses (many business classes) for that major than any other at USC. Grads come out well prepared for a wide variety of careers

Sounds impressive! My son has no aspirations toward law school - but we like a business-focused sports mgmt program rather than a kinesiology-focused one - so we like what we hear about USC.

^
At the scholars day program we attended back in the day, they came right out and said “if you are interested in being a coach, trainer, running a gym or playground, go to Clemson or somewhere else; this is about the business of sports.”

You need to visit and schedule a meeting with the departmental staff…they are really good people. We were very pleasantly surprised.
