Pros and Cons?

Hey everyone!
I am down to two schools to pick from... CSULB and UCSC!!
I like both schools a lot, so I want to see what current students (informed people can answer too!) think the pros and cons are of UCSC.
I am so torn on which one to pick!
Thanks to anyone who responds.. I can't wait to see what everyone has to say!

What is important to you?
What is your intended major?
What do you like about each school?
What do you dislike?

This will give folks something to work with.

okay…
important to me:
good class size…not too big or too small
friendly faculty and students
activities throughout the school year (ideally there would always be something new to do)
ease of getting around campus
good dorms

My intended major is biology (at UCSC I chose Marine Bio)

What I like about each school:
I dont know to much, but I have visited both campuses (I didnt get a guided tour though so I only know what each looks like, and not specifics)
I like UCSCs location more than CSULB, but CSULB has a great campus.
When I visited both campuses, I went when there was few students around, so I didnt get to see how active and involved the student body is.

Dislike:
From what i’ve seen, UCSC is too spread out. I feel like I had to walk a lot to get to another building
I am not too fond of CSULBs location…I love NorCal more than SoCal

I came up with some questions as well, if anyone can answer them…

How involved are the students, and are there events where a big group of students participate?

How do students get around better? Walk? Bike?
3.What is the weather usually like?
4.Which residential college has better dorms?

UCSC students are involved when it comes to groups/matters that are important to them. If there’s a chance to protest, you can bet UCSC will be on it. If you’re thinking about events like sports/school spirit, then CSULB has UCSC beat. The sporting scene is pretty dead.

The campus may seem huge, but it’s actually all within walking distance. I used to walk to all of my classes, even if they were on the other side of campus (~20-30 mins max). Otherwise most people take the on-campus bus to their classes. They are free, convenient, and run frequently. There are also metro buses that run through the campus that are technically free, but it charges the school every time you get on. Those are nice to use to get to your classes from off-campus and even downtown.

Weather isn’t as nice as socal, but still nice. It can get pretty rainy/cloudy in the fall and winter time. Spring/summer time the weather is perfect though (very sunny but not too hot).

Colleges 9 and 10 have the newest dorms, but I would really pick a dorm based on your interests instead. Trust me, you’ll have a better freshman year if you do that.

Thanks for answering those! I am still researching both schools, and your answers are very helpful in deciding where to go!
Thanks again!
